View Full Version : wtf are Sapphire doing?!?
Ok now.... I got my X800Pro 256MB VIVO... Sapphire "made".... but...:
1. The card HAS the Rage Theater Chip.... I think that only X800XTs are supposed to have one...
2. it uses 1.6ns memory....
3. The R420 core is "AD" one and don't have the bridge cut!!!
Flashed to XT BIOS but still got 12 pipes..... anyone could possibly fill me in with the story?!?

IIRC,
1.) Sapphire is one of the few who put the VIVO chips on their X800Pro (if not the only one)....
2.) They are also the only ones who use the 1.6ns RAM atm... Better OC for the end-user...
3.) Still just a 12 pipeline X800Pro, I recall some1 saying that after a certain date, the X800Pro cores had the 4 pipelines cut from within the chip & not lasercut on the outside of the chip...
These R420AD chips are unlockable, you gain some (1.6ns ram, VIVO, but lose the chance to unlock the extra pipelines)...
That's even if the extra pipelines are unlockable...
Only time will tell...
Hopefully your Sapphire X800Pro will OC like a mofo but the chances of getting an X800XT out of it are next to none...

Can you take the heat sink off and tell us what is on the core ?
Regards
Andy
Son of a gun..... what a bugger.....
So what's the deal with using XT core/memory on a X800Pro card.... or they could just have found another way to lock it.... despite the bridge combination.... :stick:

it's probably a failed XT.

Ok now.... I got my X800Pro 256MB VIVO... Sapphire "made".... but...:
Notice how your wrote VIVO? The Rage Theater Chip is required for VIVO...
Yeah, I know that Rage Theater chip is required for the VIVO.... but I though that X800Pro ain't supposed to have one.... and what about the 1.6ns memory? why on X800Pro?!?
Kunaak, I though about that also.... but why build a X800XT with a failed core and then think of it and remark it....

I got one of these today and its been ok so far, on stock cooling, hot case, hot day, core did 506 stable for 24/7 and memory did I think 576, this is just using ati tool's autooverclock though.
Think it needs moar powar and more testing.

looks like there will be a softmod soon, so maybe we dont need to hard mod the cards anymore at all.

I really hope, that someone finds a way to softmod those, cuz I'm starting to think that it will be the only way for us with those Sapphire X800Pros....
