MPX2 bios mod, come get it!

Hi all

perhaps this belongs in the smp section, but since nobody really browses that part of the forum, ill post it here instead.

I just got this board and nobody had a bios mod or could help me, so i did it my self... dont worry it works.....

heres the short version.
1: unhides several hidden features on the Iwill MPX2 motherboard
2: Allows DDR modules that can not run in cas 3 to run if default/optimezed settings are invoked. I have changed the default cas latency from 3 to 2.5
this has been tested with Corsair's 256Mb pc3500 xms c2 modules, and it works.

3: The multiplier change menu under iwills smart settings, does not work, it has something to do with missing hardware on the MB, if any have a fix
for this, please let me know !

note what you do with this is at your own risk and i will not be responsible for any damage to your hardware etc.

if u want to unhidesome of hidden sellection in bios menu

try look at _EN_CODE.BIN files(if it is available)

it is basicillay code like this

name follow by 00
some imes name follow by 01

00 after the name means the opiton is visible
01 mean hidden

so if u want to unhide it just change it to 00

u can extrat it with many tools... fixed id for en_code.bin 4029:0

question
thinking about picking up a used dual socket A board. Unsure though if I need to use registered or ECC ram though as I don't have any and really wouldn't want to go buy any. could I just use some PC2700 I have laying around???

You should be able to use the first 2 slots up to about 1gig like 2*512Mb sticks of normal pcXXXX ddr.... but it depends on what board you got, or are gonna get.... but i think most boards support up to 1 gig....

was looking for a used MSI K7MasterD or whatever they call it.

That at least looks like it has working multipliers and 150fsb which is about all I'd wish to run w/out 1/5 divider etc...

Great, then your all set.. just get the board, but dont expect that it will be a killer machine, because its not.... i looking forward to when i can get my dual opteron instead.... actualy i'm considering just to upgrade my nf7-s with a new cpu while i wait... and put this baby on the server side....

but its good if you use a lot of smp enabled programs etc. ....
