Hi i will order a new a64 sys in about 3 days (i made a thread 2 weeks ago but they told me i should ask again in 2 weeks ;))

My Problem is now what shall i buy ? A newcastle or an clawhammer , the most important thing is overclocking and value , i am using a prommi so i should get pretty good results in overclocking

there the second thing is which cpu 3200+ or 3400+ ?? If there is only a difference of 50 mhz (after oc) that doesnt makes 170$ difference so are there any results how much more a 3400+ will get normally ?
And which board i should purchase oc ist most important , i heard the epox should be pretty good but the msi is maybe good too plz help me

I also thought of buying a 939 system but there are really not many boards available (only an asus with k8t800 and a gigabyte nforce3 for 250$ which is way to expensive) but if the 939 gives me way more performance i may think about it but which board i should purchase than

Im in about the exact situation as you are I have came to think that if your ram can take a high 1:1 oc then your probally better off with the 3200+, the 3400+ with the 11 multi would be nice to run some bh-5 1:1 though like at 250MHz. You can estimate that they will both top off around 2.6-8 the 2.8 being if your lucky with a good chip so whats the difference in that? On air or water the 3400+ is the way to go IMO.

I have a prom too my last chip sucked a 3200+ C0 that would only do 2.6GHz with 2V prime95 stable :(
From the info I have read the Clawhammer is the way to go unless you have your prom modded with 404 or 507 you can reach about 100-200 mhz more but the extra cache for the CH will make up for the loss of the MHz in 3dmark. I have decided in saving a few bux and trying my luck with another 3200+CH hopefully this time Ill get a CG steppig!

Hope this may help you and I also am looking forward to the others responses.

ok nice i think i will buy a 3200+ too than(i will watch for a cg). I didnt mod my prommi anyways , but do u know if i have to put off the ihs for using a prommi or can it keep on the cpu ??

i which mainboard would you preffer ??

My ram runs with 238 fsb 2.8 volt and 10-4-4-2.5 on a nforce2 (suppose it will run better on a a64 system)

If your going to promi cool your cpu's get the 3400 or even the 3700 but always get the clawhammer your going to want the highest multi avialible to get a good clock. Right now it's my mem holding me back from running anything faster than 264x11 @ 1/1 If I had the 12x multi of the 3700 I think I could run 3ghz, but then if your going to buy the 3700 you might as well spend the extra 100.00 on a FX53 939 and have all the multi's unlocked.
I have a A64 3000 newcastle that tops out around 2.6 and the 512 cash was really noticeable performance loss.

Leave the IHS on unles you plan on moding the promi bracket. I made a post some where around here with pics, just do a search.

yeah search for what if i search for prommi i find thousands of threads in this sick forum (i am sick too btw ;)) .

Do u have any stats how much better a 3400+ is running than a 3200+ cg ?? because when it is like in my first post (only 50 mhz difference) its not worth to pay 150$ more (is this correct english ? ;))
