Hi,

Don't want to burst any ppl's bubbles or anything, but im wondering what exactly is the point of building a cascade system if it can only be used for one shot purposes.

From what ive gathered, (correct me if im wrong) cascade systems are just too difficult to run for real usage - ie 24/7 or for use on your main system for gaming, number crunching etc or what ever ya plan to use all that cpu power for. You run into startup problems, oil seperation problems...not to mention condensation problems.

If they are only for one shot benchmarking - why not just use LN2?

Is it just for the challenge and experimentation that you guys build cascade systems?

Are there any of you out there that have managed to build a cascade system that can run for continuous (or near on) usage, for your system?

My Opinion:
The biggest Point is: You have build this huge thing :)
Its your own and more difficult to build than a LN2/Dryice Cooler.

Ive build a Cascade with 2 halfhermetic Compressors with a Coolingtechnican, it runs 24/7 and cools down Plasticparts to simplify the break off the burrs...

:D

I certainly understand from the hobby point of view - im about to dive into all this custom phase change myself :)

I just wondered if it was at all possible to construct a 24/7 usable cascade system that could say get to -100c, i suppose its at least far more usable than the crazy one shot LN2 bench runs you see - at least you can get days worth of running out, rather than minutes lol

more than a days worth...lots of years worth..compresors can last a long time
...lol, its an expensive hobby i would think, and a risky one

pcice, is it possible to do an ln2 cascade?, could u use n as the last refrigerant...i dunno wat temps it cools at..soo, maybe im just fantasizing :P

well, the critical temp of nitrogen is -147c.. That means you need to have -147c to have it to even condense.. (if i got that with criticaltemps correct) :).

I had my cascade running for a week straight at comdex last year. We are all getting colder each build.

Cascades are very dependable when built right. You can run for as long as you want and not have to stop or worry about keeping the cup full.

I'm In the Middle of building My Cascade for My 3.2E ES.

Previous to this, I built a Single Stage that gave me the results in My Sig.,Which was a Lot better than the Vapochill XE I had bought.

I have Learned(And am STILL Learning) Skills that I Never Thought I could Do involving Phase Change Systems, and the XTREMESYSTEMS and TEAMPUSS Forums have THE Best ppl to talk to and Show You HOW to Do It!:D
