View Full Version : ST or LS??

I was just going to change form my watercooled system to a phase change system when s939 hits the UK but the unfortunate events at Nventiv have made me have to reconsider my plans.
Was planning on getting the Mach 2 GT. Now I have been offered a ST but the other option is the Vapo LS.
The only thing tat has put me off it so far is I've heard it is quite loud. I know there's gonna be a few people on here with these units. Whats your impression of them?
Cheers for any advice!!

tough choice...
ST=Bankrupt Company, customer support?
or LS?
Noisey, but less powerful cooling than GT...

nVentiv are dead so a Mach II GT is out of the question now anyway unless you can pick one up from somewhere that still has em.

If you go over to XR and read the post about the LS vs the GT you'll see that bowman stated that the noise level of both is about the same and both are quiet. Having said that I'd go for the LS. From everthing I've seen to this point the LS performs slighly better then the ST/mach II and has a much better package then the ST.

Have seen a unused second hand GT over here but its going to be either a ST or an LS.

asetek has an excuse now, the LS tuned for higher heatloads than the GT.
and its looking to be true from bowmans hints.:p:
i don't mind the sound the LS, its quieter than my previous aircooled rig :)

Actually I'd LOVE to have an LS for a 24/7 rig... not quite cool enough for my kinda' benching, but I LOVE them nonetheless.

I think that charlie is thinking of either dry ice or cascade cooling.

Probably because he doesn't seem to stick with hardware for extended periods of time, and has a fair amount of it. Also, its pretty hard to use dry ice 24/7 so he'd have to either put his dry ice numbers or his 24/7 numbers in. Course thats just a guess.

Excellent :D Show us some extreme overclocks 6800U vs. X800XT and settle the dispute.

platty, I just got my LS about 2 weeks ago. It's not noisy at all. Infact it's quieter than my air cooled that was using an slk900U and a SmartCase Fan 2. The case fans I have are louder than the LS. It's not quiet like a Dell LOL but it's not irritating. Temps for my P4 3.2 running at 4.18 stable are at -48C with the Fans at 75% and Heaters at 25%. For everyday use I can turn the fans down to 35% and the heaters down to 15% and the temps are -43 as I'm posting. I'm real happy with mine. Looks good, mounts easy, no noise, and Ice Cold. Reminds me of my Xwife. :D

hahaha nice one looks like the LS is definitely the best bang for the buck retail phase change cooler.

Cheers. Are you and other people doing the optional greasing of the socket step??

I'm using vaseline instead that... (don't missunderstand this :D )
The minimum my evaporator get's idle is -41º and about -36_-33º in full.
My A643200+@1,856v@2610Mhz goes to +3º_+6º when in full.
Not only at these speed or voltage... in full the cpu gets near positive temp's very easily at stock speeds...
Do you guys think it maybe be a bad overclocker CPU problem? It's possible that my Vapo LS is bad calibrated?
Best regards!

Yes, you should do the greasing for the socket and the cpu pins. I use dialetric compound I got from napa auto. $7 for a good sized tube

Yep greased using the stuff that came with the unit. Still have enough for another application if need be. Will probably look for dielectric grease when I need more. Wasn't that much of a mess.
Bowmans comparative review of the GT and LS is up now
