Today I was in Fry's and saw the most beautiful LCD lappie screen I've EVER seen.... on a 17" WUXGA Sony Vaio A-Series

Darn thing is 1900x1280 (or something like that) with a 9700Pro Mobile, great lappie, EXCEPT the CPU choice, a 1.7 Centrino (Banias)???!!!!

Here's what I want:
Centrino, the new one supporting 802.11G
Fastest Dothan there is: (anything faster than 755, 2.0gHz?)
17" WUXGA widescreen
9700 Pro Mobile
5-6lbs.
1gB

Unfortunately few mfg combine the Dothan with their high end DTR lappies!

voodoopc makes a 2.0gHz Dothan with a 9700 pro and a 15.4" WXGA that weighs 5.5# :D I want same thing BUT with that huge beautiful WUXGA screen...

OK here's a plan if I was made of money :D

The 1.7gHz CPU it comes with is a Dothan (2mB Cache)... so it stands to reason that a 2.0gHz Dothan (Intel 755) could be dropped in as a replacement. BIOS should see it fine, too :D

yeah, for $3500

here are some Dothan 735, 755 benchmarks with mobility 9700 pro. some pretty impressive results.

looks like the 755 is totally backwards compatible with all Banias lappies, so one could buy a 1.4gHz model with Banias, upgrade cpu and flash BIOS...

What I don't understand is why they don't start making Latop and PC screens at 1920x1080? I mean come on, we NEEEEEEEED HD damnit! :D

Well I do anyhoo :p:

I'm absolutely SERIOUS!!! Everyone stop what you're doing and GO stare at this Lappie and it's screen. Literally it's like the first time you went into the electronics store and watched the HD trailer from DISCOVERY HD next to a regular TV. It's THAT amazing. In fact 2 of the Icons were on top of a darker section of the VAIO desktop and the sharpness of the icons contrasting to the more "distant" looking desktop made it look like the 2 icons were "floating" on the screen, PLUS the da*n thing is bright and colorful as he**.
