Hi guys, i've recently got a fairly good deal from a friend, being able to swap a very old 1.8A of mine(which had it's IHS popped and works at 2.7GHz flawlessly at 1.55v) to a brand spanking new 2.4A Prescott for only a mere USD13.

But here's where the problem comes in. I am still waiting for my refurb. Abit IC7 to arrive(heard that IC7 works best with the Prescott 2.4A although they might lose out compared to when ran with the 2.4C which is more FSB hungry), but i tried popping the chip into my Epox 4PEAD(on bios 3515), but it just wouldn't work in it, showing FF(on the onboard port 80) once i booted up the PC. Does that mean that the chip is not compatible with the motherboard? Tried removing RAMs and graphics card but still the same. Popped the chip into an Abit IS7-E and it works like a charm.

Anybody have solution for this? Do i need a BIOS update to run the Prescott, or it's the hardware requirements instead?

Full system specs:
- Intel P4 Prescott 2.4A
- Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu
- Epox 4PEAD (i845PE chipset)
- Corsair XMS3000C2 v2.1
- Abit Siluro 128MB GF4Ti4200-8x
- HEC 400W PSU
- W.D. 400JB HDD

p/s: Does anybody know of any other Epox mobo's BIOSes that can be flashed onto the 4PEAD? Coz it's annoying that the BIOS doesn't have a 1:1 option although vdimm can go up to 3.2v ;)

I just tired a prescott on a 4g4a+ i had in the closet. Fans come on for a second then turn off.

Good luck with them on older boards.

Hm... well, at least mine's better, it would start would problem, can leave it running there for hours, but it just wouldn't boot, but the chip works fine on a IS7-E which is part of a system i was servicing for customers.

:(

Guess the only thing i can do now to bring that the rig to working conditions for now is to borrow an old northwood or wait for the reburb. IC7 to arrive then.
