Got a P4C800E-DLX which worked 100 percent perfect before I got phase change. Now After a week of Phase Change, my setup wont even load windows at default BIOS settings with absolutely no OCing before getting a BSOD. It used to run perfect with Vcore at 1.75 Volts actual and this limit gradually got less and less before restarting the system. now it wont start without seeing that damn blue screen.
What are the symptoms of a Bad Intel CPU? I'm thinking it is more likely the board. I got a new 3.2C coming so i guess we'll find out. My current CPU is a 2.8 with the IHS removed.
By the way, I had no condensation for a fact. Condensation isnt even possible the way i have it setup. I think it's probably the board. which i guess is cheaper than another CPU.
By the way for any of you thinking about removing the IHS... DONT DO IT!!! Intel solders the die to the IHS now and it will come off with the IHS. I Just did this to a 3.2C. I had it for less than a half hour and never even got to plug it in... Nice 30 cap SL6WG Wasted.

dude i feel your pain! i had a 2.4c mo stepping that i did this to. i hadnt had this thing for more then 10mins before i was trying to pry the ICH off like i had done to many chips before. i wound up shatering the core. from the mailbox to the trashcan in 20 mins :(
oh well leason learned i say... anyways about your problem? are you 100% sure you dont have any condinsation? reason i ask is i had my system on the other day when i got called out by my boss to go do a service call. i shut my system down but must have forgot to shut the mach1 off and 2 hrs later when i got home the system would start to boot but then reset? i went into the bios and it kept resetting and all kinds of crazzy crap until finaly i poped the hood to have a look and around the sealstring i spotted some moister then after closer inspection my mb was soaked! took me 6 hrs to dry everything off and put it all back to gether! i got lucky i only killed a nic card it could of been alot worse!

Lol. My seal-string is 100% leak-proof and everything under the evaporator (socket, cpu, board n all) is dielectric greased to hell here. Sry bout the P4/Mobo SPL15 :(

The reason i'm positive no condesation is in there is because of the fact that the board is sealed front and back with a special conformal coating designed for this purpose. Also, I'm using a special dielectric grease that again is specially made for sealing components from water (not your average dielectric grease). Both of these products have been tested thorughly by my labs for similar applications in products I sell.
I'm dang near certian it's my board though..... From what i've read, this is a common symptom of a weak/dying P4C800. I'll know for sure tomarrow when my new replacement 3.2C comes, and I'll be sure to keep the IHS on it.

UPDATE:
After researching the problem and known ploblems with this board, I found what the issue was and I bet it can help other also.
The P4C800E's CPU ZIF socket has a known defect where if there is too much pressure on the CPU, the connections inside the socket make marginal contact so when large currents flow, things get corrupt. I realized my evap head was making way way way too good of contact with the CPU evidenced by the fact that the CPU die was creating a dent on the evap head!! I removed ALL of the washers that add pressure and now my board works 100% fine!! I even can OC to 280FSB which I couldnt before... BUT I do know the socket is permanently weakened from the previous force exerted by the evap head.
I know this is the problem because I switched back to air cooling and everything worked 100%. I tightened down the Heatsink down to a ridiculous level and I got the same BSOD that I got with the overtightened evap head.
Hope this helps others!! I just wish it could bring back this 3.2 I ripped the IHS off of. Oh well I guess it does save me $180 on a new MoBo.
