View Full Version : Calling on all Intel folders

I have good news. As soon as you finish your current WU, you can set up to fold gromac proteins which give you 50% more points. Currently the only gromac protein is the 903 which is worth 6.2 points and comes from server 111.

This is what you do:

1. Close and delete the entire FAH folder.

2. Download the FAH3.14Console-beta7.exe from Stanford and place it in a new FAH folder in C:.

3. Create a new shortcut and specify the path as
C:\FAH\FAH3.14Console-beta7.exe -advmethods -forceasm

4. Put the shortcut in your startup folder and reboot your machine.

5. The client starts automatically and you can set up your user name and team number etc.

This should give us more firepower against Hotmail and 2CPU.

:)

DDTUNG:cool:

PS If you have more than one client set up on your machine initially, you should uninstall or delete all the clients in step 1 above.

small comparison : a P_180 was running here at 7 mins 53 secs for one frame, the new gromac is running in 5 minutes 20 seconds, for a few more points even :)

This is a P4 3640.
Maybe ppl with Athlons or any other CPU's than P4's can also post if the gromacs are running faster and by how much?
I figure if these things run a bit faster on an Athlon too then its not just an Intel thing to swap to these proteins!

Unfortunately the AMD chips don't benefit from the gromacs. In fact highly overclocked AMD systems often develop instability and have to go back to a lower oc.

Well I installed the console version according to your instructions and it works great! My 1.6A@2.66 used to run a p180 in about 10min 45sec, but the 903 runs at around 7 and a half minutes. This is pretty much exactly the same percentage time decrease that JC had. It seems that us P4 owners will now be able to collect about 60% points more than we could with p180's!

Good to hear about your favorable results.:)

Now you can spread the word among our Intel running teammates.:D

DDTUNG:cool:

PS For those who don't run their rigs 24/7, the gromac core detects shutdowns and turns off assembly optimizations under certain conditions. To force optimizations, add the -forceasm flag to your shortcut.:)

So..I shouldn't run these on my xp2200@2020mhz but I could on my xp1600@1577mhz? for more points? How high of an OC before it causes problems..anyone try it on AMDs yet?

Hmm... i tried setting up the beta7 client on another pc, but for some reason, it always pulls up pre-existing user info. The console is in a new folder, with the correct -advmethods switch.
All other instances of FAH were closed too.

Any ideas?

DDTUNG
10-07-2002, 12:54 PM
I believe this happens if you are running GUI version in the other folders.

DDTUNG:cool:

DDTUNG

Because the normal console version doesn't give you
-advmethods and -forceasm.

Welcome to Team Xtreme!

If you plan on shutting down your rigs in the middle of WUs, then you should add -forceasm to make sure that assembly optimization is forced on when the rigs are restarted.

Well, it kinda figures, I finally got around to installing the beta7 on my p///, and when it was initiating the download it connected to server 119, which is down at the moment:( so it's just sitting here idle, waiting for a wu...:(

Hardass
10-23-2002, 04:02 PM
Tweaked! your shortcut is not set up right if your connecting to server 119, the gromacs come from server 111. Double check your setup.

10-23-2002, 05:16 PM
Hardass, yeah, I figured that out after playing around with it a little more. Everything is fine now, I believe it connected w/ server 107 now.:)

DDTUNG
10-23-2002, 05:20 PM
You want server 111 not 107.

sure you have removed all old FAH folders and programs prior to setting up your new client and shortcut, and check the machine ID.

Ok, well, I checked everything out.
DDtung, I completely removed all traces before downloading the new one.
Hardass, it's running w98se.
I've exactly matched how ddtung wrote it one the initial thread. This time it went for server 112. Am I supposed to specify F@H or G@H in advanced? I've tried it w/ no prefs, F@H, and G@H. G@H gave me a totally different one.

In w2k you can do it 2 differant ways.

1 Run it as a scheduled task with the command string in the run box.

2 make a batch file with the command string in it.

I have done both and it always connects to server 111

Tweaked! you do not have to enter anything except name, 3365, and computer # if diff from #1. Remember to put a space between those flags. beta7.exe -advmethods -forceasm have to put the space.

mbrock

The easiest one to explain is the batch file.

In your FAH folder create a new txt doc.

Open the text doc and paste the command string

C:\FAH\FAH3.14Console-beta7.exe -advmethods -forceasm

Rename the NEW Text Document fold.bat

Create a shortcut on your desktop to the FOLD.bat file

I also always delete the client.cfg so that I am prompted for name and team ect the first time I start the bat file.
