Hello my xtreme fellas...

I need your help again, hehehe.

I am currently running:

P4 2.6c at 3.3 (stable) on SLK900U w/ Tornado 92mm
P4c800 Deluxe
OCZ 3700 2x256mb EL DDR GOLD
ATI Radeon 9800 XT

So, on the next week, I will be able to buy some parts in New York (I live in Brazil), an I am thinking of buy 2x512mb ddr sticks, and maybe a P4 3.2 Prescott.

What do u guys think ?

Worth the CPU upgrade ? What about the memory ? Here are the options:

Intel Pentium 4/ 3.2E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology - Retail

Kingston HyperX Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 1GB (512MBx2) DDR PC-4300, Model KHX4300K2/1G - Retail

OCZ Enhanced Bandwidth Dual Channel Series Platinum Edition 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3700, Model OCZ4661024EBDCPE-K

OCZ EL Dual Channel Series Gold Edition 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-4400, Model OCZ5501024ELDCGLE-K - Retail

Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-4000PRO - Retail

Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Platinum Series, Low Latency (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-4400 - Retail

Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-4000 with Platinum-Silver Heat Spreader - Retail

Any sugestions ?

THANKS A LOT !

A 3.2E will probably do about 3.8 stable on AIR in a warm climate. If you do that, avoid the high-speed DDR like PC4400, 4000 etc. You will need DDR that runs at tight timings, about 240mHz or so... try to find some BH-5, like Mushkin Level 2, PC3500 (out of production) or some KHX3200/256 HyperX sticks, or some Corsair PC3500. They're all out of production and hard to find new. Of current sticks, I'd suggest Mushkin Special 222 PC3200 sticks or if you need a gig, MAYBE try OCZ PC3500EB

Why I shouldn't buy this:

OCZ EL Dual Channel Series Gold Edition 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-4400, Model OCZ5501024ELDCGLE-K - Retail

Running along with the prescott 3.2 ?

It wont hit higher timings ?

What about on running 1:1 ?

Thanks

nOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't do THAT!!!
Memory modules "DON'T MAKE SPEED", they simply work at the CPU's speed. Why get DDR that is rated to run at 250mHz at 3-4-4-8 timings when a LOT of BH-6 and BH-5 will run the same speed (250mHz) but with much higher performing timings like 2-2-2-5 or 2-3-3-6

I would suggest a 3.0C for aircooling, might very well do 3.8+ with your cooling.

OK....with your current setup, you're running 13 x 233 = 3gHz

What timings are you running the 3700 Gold at? If you're running 2.5-3-3-7 or 3-4-4-8 that is giving up a lot!!!! Of performance, that is... with OCZ EB you could run 2.5-2-2-5 or with BH-5 you could run the fastest...2-2-2-5

These are the memories I have atm:

2 x 256MB OCZ Gold rev2
2 x 256MB A-Data PC4000 (Hynix D43 chips me thinks)
2 x 256MB Corsair XMS3500 (BH5)
2 x 512MB Corsair XMS3500 (BH5)

with my current setup (2.6c, Asus P4C800-E, 9800pro), the best setup I have is with the Corsair memories (whether it be the 2 x 256MB or the 2 x 512Mb ones).

Even running 5:4 with the XMS against running 1:1 with my OCZ Gold, the XMS3500 kicks butt.

I'm not even going to mention the A-Data....Got 272mhz but the timings were shocking (2.5-5-4-4@3.1v [IC7-G)...

Going to the XMS, I gained at least 1000 3DMarks...

So I gotta agree with Charlie here, get some RAM with tight timings like the OCZ/Mushkin PC3200 2-2-2-7 (BH6) or get some of this new 2-2-2-5 ram from Corsair or OCZ...

I gave my A-Data away to my brother as they didn't fit my needs...I gotta admit, I was a bit naive towards the tight timings vs. higher mhz but alas, I was glad to be proven wrong...

I recommend trying out some of this "new" 2-2-25 specials...If you can find them when you're in New York.

/hugs his 4x256Mb XMS3500, 2x512MB XMS3500 & 2x256MB KHX3000... Until I get some of this "new" generation stuff...

Cheers,
Minnyboy

Get some PC4200 EB like I have or EL if you like. Both have good timings and are very overclockable.

Thanks a lot Minnyboy.

Great explanation and "review".

I will buy the stuff with NewEgg. So, I will order 2x512 Mushkin 2.2.2.5 sticks.

Mushkin SPECIAL 222 PC3200 2 x 512mB
