I want to by an new CPU and Mainboard.
Should I buy an 3200+ 1mb cache @2420MHz or an 2,4 Prescott@4GHz?
Which CPU is faster at 3dmark01?

definately the 3200+
i have one and i love it, its faster than my 2.6C was and northwoods are faster than prescotts clock for clock up to a point.

How did you come up with these numbers? 4 ghz on air is by no means guaranteed whereas you can be almost sure the A64 will go to 2.5 ghz+ on good aircooling.
3200+ but not with nforce3 150!!
Why not? Works excellent for a lot of ppl, admitted it could be a smart move to get k800 pro or Nforce 250.

He currently has a Athlon64 3000+ @2420MHZ in his sig ... so i'm guessing he's expecting at least that... I would :)

curious,
what's wrong with the A64 3000+ that you are currently using now?

Prescotts are good for ONE much used benchmark, and that's Super PI. For 3DMark A64 is much faster.
But I would stay with the 3000+, at least for a while, it seems to be a good clocker.

I would test something new and the P4 is cheeper than the AMD.
So i´ve got money for a 6800GT. I´m only a poor pupil ;)
Prescott is faster than a64 in 3dmark03 isnt it???
But does a 2.5Ghz A64 beat a 2.4@4.0???

yes it would pwn it.
also no HT on 2.4A

HT is virtually useless for benching BUT it's one of the things the P4 has going for it.

i think the prescott is good with 1mb super pi.

AMD is Faster in MOST gaming applications and some 3-D rendering applications because the FPU(Or ALU i forgot) works harder than it does in a P4.
Anything else, the P4 EE overclocked will rip apart the 3200+ into pieces BUT EE run wayyy hotter than AMD 3200+.
So Obviously, 3200+ is faster in 3dmark01. In superpi, the p4 ee will beat the 3200+ easily.

Now I have ordered an P4 2,4GHz Presscott and a IC7.
still waiting for NV40 now.
Macci I come :D:D

3200+ wasn't ment to compete with the P4EE's the FX5x series where. ;)

"EE" is NOT "E". The first is Northwood with 2 MB L3, the second is Prescott with 1 MB L2 and many downgrades from Northwood.

At the Moment only Water but soon a selfmade chiller.
a friend´s 2,4GHz Presscott runs on water with 4,25GHz on a IC7.
I hope to get this score, too.
Cascade is too difficult for me I don´t know enough about it.

Hehe no, I´m only a little hobbybencher!
Good news: I´ve reordered the P4 and now I´ll stay by my A64 3000+. I´ll buy only a new Mainboard.
It´s terrible!

Your question makes no sense to me.
Do you think getting a 2.4 Prescot to 4GHz is the same as getting a 3200+ to 2420MHz? Maybe if you would have said A64@2420MHz or Prescot@3400MHz, or maybe even A64@3GHz or Prescot@4300MHz it would make more sense.
In both cases however the A64 is the more sound choice in my opinion. You have an A64 so you know what I'm saying.;)
What's wrong with the Leadtek?

The P4 would be in a corner screaming for mercy at those clocks. "please mr A64 don't hurt me, i just run like 180 fsb anyway!" But the A64 hit it and hit it and hit it. Soon the pulp was more on the walls and celing than in the corner. Mr A64 was pleased...
