Well nothing is guaranteed. I would see if you have a Frys or something similar nearby and see if they will let you pick one out.

I want a new 3.0 E prescott, but only if i can have a specific stepping. Is it possible to look at different chips before buying?

does Fry's let you look at steppings before you buy? usually, you cant see anything unless its OEM and your already forking over the dough.

The Stepping, Batch #, and FPO code are all printed on the retail box as well so there should be no need to have to open it. In that case I don't see why they wouldn't let you examine their stock being a potential customer.

hehe. Fry's is only a stones throw away from me :D and they have a nice cafe there too, for when you get the munchies after doing some hardcore shopping:p:

I have found one site: www.geeksNMore.com

There prices are a little high, but you get what you want.
