I am looking to upgrade my PIII450 '98 rig. ('Bout time, I know.) Anyways, I know the system I WANT, but it isn't the system I can afford now, so I am going to have to do this in increments. While on Ebay, I saw this on there: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=51139&item=4130810983.
Has anyone tried buying something from these MPCS Computers or know of anyone that has. The company is only 30 miles away from where I live, so I know where to go if I run into a major problem. They also have NO complaints or neutral remarks and have over 309 positive remarks. Do you think this is a good deal?

well for one thing it's JUST a motherboard, CPU and Case w/PSU...

P4C800-E from Newegg.com $185
P4 3.0E Retail Box from Newegg.com $222
RaidMax z-gamer Case w/420W PSU $48 + $12 shipping = $60

So do the math, my friend. That's $467 from Newegg.com including shipping....
The guy on Ebay wants $545 including shipping...
You can save your self $78 by purchasing yourself :D That's enough for a 80gB SATA HDD :D

Oh and BTW,
:toast:
Welcome to Xtreme!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome! How did you know I was knew? BTW...it isn't just the motherboard and CPU. It is the case and power supply also. Plus, everything is set up, Bios run and stuff. At least that is what is advertised. So..., now adding up the case and power supply, is it a better deal? BTW..I found out they use a Raidmax 450 power supply. Does anyone know if it is good or bad?

Tacii,
look at my post, I included the exact case/power supply :D
Setting up the BIOS is easy, you can learn to do it yourself!

And your post count said "1" ;)

There's NO benefit to purchasing that there....after hanging out here for a while, you'll be ripping computers apart, replacing parts, swapping components like a madman...

Thanks guys. So do you think the motherboard and CPU are good picks? What kind of memory should I get for this set up? Would it hurt for me to put my memory that I have in my currently computer in there?

Hey Charlie, (or anyone) 2 questions:
1. Does the P4 3.0E from Egg come with a heatsink and fan?
2. Upgrading to a P4 3.2E for $70 more, is it worth the $$.
Opps..Sorry, 3 questions:
3. What is the difference between OEM parts and RETAIL parts on Egghead?

RETAIL processors come with HS/F in a box
OEM processors come in an anti static clamshell, bare and naked :D
Probably not much of a difference between 3.0E and 3.2E except for the multiplier, 15x and 16x
15x is a bit low for a nice 1:1 overclock.... a nice memory OC of 250mHz will only give you 3750, and the CPU has MORE left inside...AND 250 may not be easy depending on ram used and voltage available... 16x on the other hand, will give 4ghz at 250mHz, and probably be in the 240 range 24/7 at about 3.8-3.9.

Sorry Charlie, but... I haven't taken Multiply101 yet. Which means, I have no idea what you are talking about..but I am sure I will if I keep reading everyone's posts here. Someday, but today and probably tomorrow, won't be the days. So, to answer my previous question...you would say .... (Pick ...YES ... or ... NO)... :-)

Oh and...it sounds like RETAIL CPU's come with more stuff than OEM CPU's. But, if this is correct, how come Retail cost more than OEM? Also...are the Retail's warrenty'd for 1 yr while the OEM's are for 3yr?

>>like RETAIL CPU's come with more stuff than OEM CPU's. But, if this is correct, how come Retail cost more than OEM?

Is this a trick question? They cost more because they come with more stuff like a CPU heatsink and more warranty and a case badge :D

Also, I would maybe NOT buy 3.0E but buy Athlon 64, or a 2.8C CPU. 3.0E is way too hot and kinda slow. Read some reviews and browse around the forums!

The one that you are wanting to buy is a Prescott. The one I am suggestion is a Northwood. I would definetely look in the Athlon 64 direction.
