hey guys...im new to this forum although i've been browsing quite a bit lately...i came over here from amd forums, although i started off at forumoc (same forum oppainter came from).

anyway, i was wondering if i should go with a water setup now and upgrade to a tec setup later if i want to push my chip more...

my 1700+ can do about 2.5 stable...i hit 2.6 on air when it was wintertime...

anyway...i was wondering if i could get some opinions...

thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the sickness. :welcome:

Aha, another former Forumoc member. :D

That WC setup you're planning to buy looks fine.

As for what to expect from plain aircooling to WC, is hard to say.
I wouldn't expect 200Mhz more than with regular air.
I'd say more or less 50-100Mhz improvement vs air.

Well all depends on what kind of motherboard you have. If you vmod the MB for a higher Vcore. Which 1700+ is it? a Tbred? I have seen 1700 Tbreds hit 4ghz with watercooled and vmod.

hey, relax and feel like home :D there are a bunhc of foc'ers over here including me :D

id rather say start with a water setup and upgrade to a compressor cooled chilled water setup later (then you can make the next step to compressor cooling easily as soon as you figured out how to use it, and you save a lot of money and headaches as tecs are very unefficient compared to compressors)

And just where did you see this wonder? Typo?

On straight water the best XP1700 I've ever seen O/C'd was Morphling 1's @ 2.9 gig. And even he had the case in a open window during winter.

I'd suggest the TDX, new out from Danger Den as better than the WW or Maze 4. But like the WW it's not intended for use with a TEC.

Go with the TDX now, and switch to a Swiftech block if you still want to go TEC later.
