View Full Version : CRAZY!! 21x Prescott ???????!!!!!!!!!!!
charlie

Yup,
Newegg has ANOTHER CRAZY Prescott. It's the new 2.8A Prescott core, 533mHz FSB Retail CPU for $170.
With 21x MULTI
Hmmm.....
This could be an INCREDIBLE 1:1 CPU on phase change/DI/LN2
21 x 225=4725
21 x 250=5250
LOL!
Imagine LN2, 21 x 250, 1:1, 2-2-2-5, 5250mHz....GREAT Spi scores!!!! WR I'm sure...
Now for mortals, this cpu'd SUCK! 21 x 175-180 would be about it for Watercooling and about 210-220 on phase change.
What I'd REALLY like is a 2.8A Prescott ES chip with 14x-21x available!!! That'd be SWEEEETT.
Where's that spec code finder....?? maybe this is D0 stepping :D

the highest multi is 26 from a 2.6a
theres a risk it won't run 200fsb even with phasechange. lol:D
craig588
05-16-2004, 01:31 PM
but the 2.6A isnt a prescott.
you would need 4.2ghz just to get 200fsb

Too bad at that speed they STILL wouldn't 3D worth a sh*t.
C
Kanavit! this is for you high multi!
on a side note, $125 for brand new retail 2.4A :slobber:
charlie
05-16-2004, 03:46 PM
I would THINK about getting one, but after torture with DI I'd want to use it as a 24/7 CPU, unfortunately aircooled it would probably SUCK! Like 185fsb = 3885mHz although you could use the 3:4 memory divider to boost DDR speed to 247fsb.
OTOH, you could probably run crappy ch5 at 2-2-2-5 at like 180...
C
well, they are $170 bucks which is a rip off IMO. $125 for 2.4A seems much much better
2.4A - $125
2.8A - $170
2.8C - $179
im sure they will drop to maybe about 150?
would be interesting to see what it would to though! too bad its probly a C0 though :(

problem is you probly wouldnt get the boost because the CPU isnt running at that speed? not sure though

Throw it in your every day water rig when your done with it... 200 fsb might be possible :p:

It would help :D remember the 845PE chipset, and running the OLD 2.53, 2.66 and 2.8 and 3.06's we'd all use the 4:5 or 3:4 dividers to boost DDR speeds and it HELPED. Same here... just not as much as running sync @ 260

Just for reference sake, most 2.4A go about 3.3 or 3.4 on air with stock voltage....
That's good :D
Kanavit
05-16-2004, 06:48 PM
i think the 2.4A prescott is better, since it has higher multiplyer 24x. Macci used this chip to set 3dmark03 record. but, the 2.8A prescott could be better overlocker possibly.
charlie
05-16-2004, 07:44 PM
no, the 2.4A prescott is an 18x multiplier, 18 x 133 = 2394
if Macci had been using the 2.8A, he could have kept the DDR @ 1:1 at the same CPU speed.... very good for performance and would have netted better times :D

your right Charlie, i was thinking about the 2.4a northwood. the prescott 2.4a has 18x multi, so the 2.8a prescott should be better.

I say LOL
Whats wrong with that? are the prescots slower at 3d mark? if so the extra 500mhz (around) they could run it at would make the difference up and more, plus he has an EE at 5326 also:D

This is memesama's website. Link (http://members.jcom.home.ne.jp/3233730401/index.htm). Ignore the picture on the front page. Just click on some of the items to the left.
I'm not aware of a faster Japanese version of SuperPi. I believe the original program was developed at the University of Tokyo back in the 1990's. There are a number of variants including of course PiFast. Pi programs (http://www.myownlittleworld.com/pi/otherpi.html)

Now the problem is....
...if I keep this chip and stick it in my desktop water rig, it'll probably run 21 x 200 = 4200 but that performace will suck for a desktop rig, low mem b/w and no H/T. In fact probably be outperformed on the desktop by a 2.8C, or even 2.4C. Maybe eBay it or return to Newegg??

kinda wierd that they are making prescott in both 800 and 533 fsb models or is 400 fsb? im all confused??? so intel makes this prescott in diff models? i gues this one here has less fsb and no HT? but the core is still a prescott? damm this chip ocs great just too bad its castrated? so the 800 fsb version should oc just as good as the A series i take it?

does overclocking make it better or worse? of course if your overclocking the clock speed is faster. overclocking your 2.4C to 3ghz plus would be faster lol. same with getting a 3.0E and overclocking it to like 3.6ghz
