Brought me my mobile Athlon64. The full code is AMA3200BEX5AR 9818xxxxxx0194 CAAPC0405TPMW I'm gonna fire it up VERY shortly. I have the Albatron K8X800 Pro II here, but I already have my RMA placed, and ordered up an Abit KV8 Pro, which DOES have the K8T800 Pro chipset. BTW, yep, those are at newegg. I'll be awhile, for a nice clean OS install, & making sure I have drivers, etc. Plus I'll be taking my time installing the chip & heatsink, since it's a bit different from what I'm used to. Later. :)

You realize that at this time the KV8pro doesn't have agp/pci locks

i believe amaXXXXXXX is desktop replacement, basically a lidless a64, amnXXXXXXXX is the actual mobile 64 as shown on amd's tech docs

Yep, KV8 Pro doesn't have AGP/PCI locks, and yep, that's the DTR chip. They still O/C better than desktop chips, though.

I'm not sure I can put it together today, my Alpha PAL8150 didn't come with the backplate, and I'm not too sure of the plastic one that came with the mobo. :(

I hope you're right. If they do get it fixed, I may go for one, but concidering VIA's past history of locks, I'm going to wait and see.

i'd say get rid of cpu and mobo and wait for LV Mobiles and the newer revision of the via chipset, which does have a pci lock (or better go with nforce3 250, via sucks ... my opinion ;))

This isn't the all aluminum one. ;) Found some machine screws that'll work, and even tho there's no newby insurance, the core of the chip is HUGE, so I'm fairly confident. Just torqued it down nice & slow, kinda like on a Radeon core, once ya remove the shim. :)

thing is why would Abit fix the KV8 Pro right this moment ? if they did it would outsell their flagship KV8 Max3 which costs more ??

The KV8 Pro is lacking many of the features found on the KV8 MAX3. Also, Abit likely will introduce a KV8 Max3 with the K8T800 Pro chipset, being that both chipsets cost the same and are perfectly compatible with one another. One should expect all Abit boards with this chipset to have AGP/PCI lock.

so this mobile chip is better than the desktop A64's? Do they have all the multi's available?

From what I hear they run a slight bit cooler probally because of the direct contact with the core and have a slight OC advantage, but they are basicaly the same other than the core cover. Same adjustable lower multipliers. I may pick one up here soon just for the hell of I run completely stabe at 2.6Ghz with 2.04 Volts with a C0 stepping, maybe a CG will get me 2.7 ?

Damn, that's kinda weak, only 2.6Ghz @ 2.04v?!? With a prommy I assume?

Get a new chip!!!! :p:

You relize that no one has gotten a DTR 64 to run in any board other thaen the AN50R with the 10/30 bios

Welp, I got totally sidetracked, (damn frisky women :D ) but the darn thing doesn't wanna go. I can't even get into the BIOS screen, just get the voice genie (which is HELLA cool btw), telling me there may be a problem with my CPU or there may be a prob with my mem. I spent about an hour looking for something I missed, switching DIMMs, and clearing the CMOS, as if that would help. ;) Only guessing, but it sounds like someone fried the mem controller? Or the BIOS is just not able to recognize it? I'd kinda like to keep the chip, to try in the Abit when it gets here, but I think I only have 7 days to RMA. I think I'll call the egg on Monday and see what kinda options there are.

Ok, kool Thats the only other board that I've heard running a DTR. What bios are you using? Does it work with all the bios's? The shuttle will only work with the 10/30 bios if you update to a newer one you get no post just a blank screen as spaceman has described.

I would buy 10 KV8 Pros if they had it working right I can sure use the locked agp/pci bus plus the 1.8vcore/3.2vdimm out of the box for customers rigs

Sounds good! But what about the 255fsb oc limit?

boshi
05-19-2004, 04:29 PM
thats weird, 225FSB was exactly what I got out of my KV8-Max3.

Pissed me off that the processor didnt even get hot before I reached my OC limit.
