Well, I'll be moving to 64bit computing soon... got a really cool A64 that is really unique... 3100+ w/1mb cache.
I'm waiting for a NF3-250 or a K8T800pro motherboard before I jump right into overclocking this puppy.
The closest stepping that I could find on the Internet was for a mobile chip. I hope that indicates this chip may be good for o/c'n.
I've got a feeling that this chip may be an early C0 stepping with the last two characters being "AJ" and a date of 0321. I know that counters the previous statement about o/c'n but we'll see.
Here is the full stepping:
ADA3100AEP5AJ
AAAHC0321RPAW
You can check the steppings here:
http://www.amdboard.com/amd64_opn.html
Below is the information off a mobile a64... fairly close to what I've got in my hot little hands. :D

you mean 3200+ 3100+ is s939 only and its 1.8GHz

3100+ was before they figured out the model number line up.

I wouldn't get too excited - this is like preproduction.. I wouldn't expect it to O/C that well ;) You might get lucky anyway though.

ya, 1.8ghz with 1mb cache, socket 754
Now that people have figured out how to overclock these cpu's I'll be aiming for 2 -> 2.2ghz using some of the guides and the newer chipsets with the locked APG.
only 2.2? ...then u'll be very happy

Good luck with your new chip.
I never knew AMD made a 3100+?
The name 3100+ just sounds odd to me lol.

Did you ever decide on what ram to go with?

its an old chip :/

I'll be using my current memory. It'll run 200mhz, which is fine as I plan to run the HTT asynchronous with the memory.

That's OK I plan on running the memory at the stock speed anyway. I don't know if the early steppings were subjected to the new A64 overclocking techniques. Most early attempts hit the wall at 220 mhz "fsb" and now we are seeing 300-350 HTT speeds.
Here is a look at the chip.

So its an old chip? What have others acheived with these? Its locked right?

It might be a poor clocker due the fact it's an old chip, but still. I think it's realy cool to have a unique chip ! :)
how did you get it btw? and let us know the results!

I'm sure AMD didn't intend for this chip to get out so I'd prefer not to say who I got it from.
I'm hoping to hit 2.2ghz with this chip, if successful the PR would be around 3700+ (244mhz HTT) as opposed to my current t-bred @ 2.5ghz (166x15) rated at 3100+.
I'll keep you guys posted on the results.

Lol, I would love to have that chip just for the novelty. But then, I'd also love to get my A64 rig set back up, so I'd love to have it for that reason, too... ;)

Look forward to seeing what she does..3700+ looks like a nice place to start.
BTW: What all else is going into this new system?

At this point I'm trying to do it on the cheap...
I can get an MSI K8T Neo-FIR for $134can and a Thermalright SLK948U for $59can.
I will be using my current memory since it willl run 200mhz at cas 2.5. I have a Vantec 400w ION PSU, 2x120GB WD drives, 1x30GB IBM Deskstar that I'll be swapping over too.

Wow just suggested that mobo to some friends of the family, looks uber sweet.
Well I think you are goin to be happy just :cord: the 3100+ into a 3700+
As for the PC2700 unless its BH-5 :shakes: I'd get some Mushkin BH-6 or the new OCZ PC3200EB 2GB Kit :stick: that way you can have the tighter timings and overclock 1:1 even further, my :2cents:

Lol, I want that chip more every time I see it. :-p Trade ya some Mushkin PC3200 BH-6 for it. ;)
I want to see some overclocking results on this. The model code looks similar to the codes on the older revision Opterons. Any idea when you'll get a system set up with it?

Well I can't find anyone in Toronto, Canada that sells an NF3-250 or VIA K8T800pro based motherboards.
It's too damn close to the new chipset release to go out and buy old technology.
As soon as a board is available I'll be building a system.
... as far as trades? I think I'll hold on to this chip even if it doesn't o/c too well but I think it should do 2.2-2.4ghz like other A64's

If you can't find NF3-250 or K8T800 i'd suggest looking at a NF3 150, Gigabyte K8N-Pro. One of the best, if not the best NF3-150 board out their.
Gigabyte also has a NF3-250 board out.

Don't think about getting 2gb of memory, athlon 64's stumble with even 1GB (random lockups, system crashes).

Are the new chipsets supposed to resolve that problem? I'd love to fit 2gb onto an NF3 250.

ya both nvidia and VIA have locked AGP/PCI.
I've read a few articles that show how to get 300+mhz HTT (different than the traditional fsb).
The memory can be set at 200 while independently pushing the HTT speeds by reducing the LDT.
I think most people haven't read enough to know the A64's use different technology and require a bit of tweaking to get the most out of 'em.
These aren't the old fashioned AthlonXP's or P4's with it comes to o/c'n.

Well still no signs of the NF3-250 in Canada... and VIA is MIA too... :(
On a positive note: I picked up a Thermalright SLK948U today! :)
I've been reading a few "how-to" articles about overclocking the A64's... looks like fun.

All the 3000's I've seen advertised had 512kb of L2, so yours still is unique. :) Unless of course there's another line that's not too common yet.

That board is based on K8T800, not Pro ;) I saw it locally and I went to website and it said the non-pro.
