View Full Version : Do these 3DMark scores seem oddly low for my system?

I used to be able to get around 6,800 marks overclocked on this system. After holding those scores for about a week with NO changes to my configuration, my scores magically dropped down to between 5,500-5,900 marks! Also i set my settings back to stock and i only got 4,900 marks?!
Heres my specs:
P4 3.0C
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Kingston HyperX Pc4000 (1GB)
Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS
GeForceFX 5900 NU
Western Digital 80GB HDD (normal one)

I checked my heat and everything seems to be staying fine. Even at the 6,800 that was with no heating conflicts. The card WAS flashed to a 5950U when i got those 6,800's but it even dropped down to 5,900 with the 5950, so i flashed it back to a 5900NU (mainly because i started getting BSOD errors from the card) I'm just a little worried that something is fried in my system. Do you think a fresh install of windows XP will bring things back to my specs? (its been since about december since last format) I know I may seem a little over-reactant but i'm just a little worried. If it turns out to be the videocard itsself thats dead im not a bit worried, soon i will have the 6800U :)

Are you going for high 3d mark scores, or are you just gaming?
If you're just gaming you might as well not bother.
(sorry if I seem a bit negative, but theres been a couple posts like this recently where in the end the threads creater says "well yea, I don't really care cause all I do is game" and then proceeds to not do any of the suggestions)

I do game quit a bit but i really am getting into benchmarking and want to be able to get some nice marks. So lets just act like im not a gamer. What would you suggest i do to get my marks back to speed?
I do plan on at least trying ANY reccomendations and tips just to at least see there effects.

Well I would deffinitly try a reformate, a fresh start almost always helps. Its hard to say what else could be lowering your score.

I did get around 6,600 with my 5900NU bios, and no i do not have any AF or AA enabled.I have all sliders and tweaks of my own set for performance. I did reformat recently, but do to me and my experimental XP tweaks i got xp to not boot (i miss typed something :( ) i had to reinstall XP over the previous installation without reformatting completly so i wouldnt lose EVERYTHING, but really reinstalling XP over XP made quit a few things screwy (such as seeing two of the same device) I'm using XPHome btw, i do have a copy of XP Pro which i think i might try next reformat (do you think having pro over home will give me any preformance increase??) I will be formatting when I get my 6800U or X800 XTPE ....on another note, i read here that installing drivers in certain orders will give different preformance results. Is this true? If so what order should i install everything?
