I use to have a 2.4C @ 3.6 GHz (300 FSB) on an Abit IC7-G mobo with PC3700 memory running at 5:4 (240 MHz) 2-3-3-7 and a Asus Ti4200 running at 358/742. My score in 3dmark01 was 19.1K, with Drag Hi being about 170 and Nature being 106.

I now have a 3.0C @ 3.9 Ghz (260 FSB) on an Asus P4C800-ED mobo with PC3700 memory running at 1:1 (260 MHz) 2-3-3-7 and a new (different) Asus Ti4200 running at 351/742. My score in 3dmark01 is about 18.6k, with Drag Hi being about 157 and Nature being 100.

Any ideas on what is causing the low Drag Hi and Nature scores? Is there a setting in RivaTuner that I have missed? Car Lo, Car Hi, Drag Lo, Lobby Lo, and Lobby Hi appear to be pretty close to the scores I was getting before.

3dMark2001 loves high FSB's! Thats a 40Mhz difference between the two so I can bet thats where one of the problems lie. Nature is mostly gfx card related but the 6 frame rate difference only counts for 120 points.

I guess the part that confuses me the most is that the tests that I thought were most dependent on high FSB speeds (Car Hi and both Lobby), actually performed fairly well with the new setup. I did not expect Drag Hi and Nature to be affected so much.

I just wonder if there is something wrong with this new video card, or if I have missed something.

Never mind. I found it.....I had missed a setting in RivaTuner. I really need to write all of these settings down in one place, so that I don't forget.

After fixing the setting, my Drag HI score went up about 15 fps. Unfortunately the temp in room is kinda high tonight, so 3dmark01 crashed to the desktop before I finished all the tests. I did finish 5 of the 7 tests, and I was probably on-track to score about 19.4k. Gotta go to bed, so I will have to try again tomorrow.

Run the tests individually, that will keep it from crashing. Also, even 7 MHz less on the core of your graphics card can make a difference and the different gfx cards may have slightly different BIOS (even if they are the same card, depends on the date they were manufatured), which can also effect score. I remember when I flashed a reference BIOS on my Ti4200, it added an avereage of 200 points to 3DMark...a frame here and a frame there.

Your doing 19k+ on a ti4200? That's really good if you ask me!!!

Wait until Geforce4ti4200 sees this thread and he will jump on it to help you out asap.

I did manage to finish all the tests last night, however my Car HI score dropped just enough that I did not make 19.4k. I scored 19,394 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7822413) . :D :p:

I forgot to look at which setting it was I had set wrong. I think it was one of the OpenGL settings. I'll take a look tonight.

I'm building a system for my sister-in-law with a ti4200. What driver should I use for it? Should I use the lastest driver from Nvidia?

OpenGL settings dont affect 3dmark.

I did some testing again tonight to make sure that I wasn't imagining the effect of this setting, and it does make a huge difference (12+ fps in Drag HI). I'll just say that it is a Direct3D LMA setting. Not an OpenGL setting.... sorry about the confusion.
