was that mfc1 fan controller originally black or is there modding involved?

yup... did some mods to it... gave it a nice black coating to get rid of the stock clear blue color.... and sanded down some of the original wordings off before giving it a final buff... :D

That looks great, nice a simple setup. Is that a soupcan reservoir? lol..
I can't really tell on this craptacular monitor, but I think the hose on the barbs on the radiator should be wiggled on a bit further..

Indeed, I didn't even realize that. It would be a shame if some of those bits flew onto any components or psu connectors.

I have been seeing people put clamps on kink section and i think its just wrong....here's the deal, you're probably thinking less is more, well make the tubing a tad longer...probably an inch or two and you wont have kinks, trust me on my word cause i'm an expert .

I've done it before. I'll take a piece of thin cardboard and use it as a shield, then use a vacuum up close to get the debris as it comes off the bit. But I have to have a very solid excuse to justify the risk. In general, all parts are off if I'm generating metal frags. Mine eyes have seen the damage they wreak. Fortunately, I only observed that disaster and was not responsible.

I'd suggest you replace those S12s. While they're great fans, they're not designed to work in high-impedance situations as they have a low static pressure. By comparison, Noctua's P12 fans have a much higher static pressure and will give you better temps for about the same noise level.

OK, I've mentioned this build a few times already and I just finished it...in fact, it's so newly finished, it doesn't even have an OS yet. Before y'all flame me, I built this as an experimental shiats & giggles system, it contains:
Case is an old AOpen that I don't even remember the model #
Gigabyte GA-8I915G-MF
524 Preshott
Innovatek G-Flow CPU block
Sapphire X1300 (Gigabyte 7600GT shown in pics went up in flames last night due to touching top of the case http://smilies.vidahost.com/otn/sad/mecry.gif)
DD CSP-Mag
3 Alphacool Cape Cora
MagiCool Plexi Reservoir 400
Innovatek compression fittings
11.2/8 Tygon R3603 (I was led the believe this was the right size for the fittings I bought but doesn't seem to fit right:shrug: )
Antec NeoHE 380
30GB Maxtor & 20GB Seagate HDD
Innovatek Protect fluid
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6158/innovatekfrontse9.jpg
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/922/innovatekinsideit2.jpg
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6827/innovatekblockvf8.jpg
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/3437/innovatekpumppm2.jpg
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/9295/innovateksidekb9.jpg
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6170/innovatekfittingskm6.jpg
I'm not expecting any great performance out of this system and soon as I use up all the fluid I bought (enough for 2 more re-fills), I'll likely switch it to an all copper/brass setup with an Apogee Extreme and a BIP.
how is the system? filled? running?

Just finished modding a Stacker 830 SE, was kindda hard as the emplacement for the rad couldn't be used due to the PWM heatsinks on the mobo... So I had to move everything as far as possible to the left side... bundled with the too many connectors on the PC Power Cooling PSU which are impossible to hide lol... this was a pain in the butt to accomplish... really thought these cases were bigger...

04-19-2008, 07:13 AM
3/8 it was, my friend thought it was 8/10mm so I bought some new tubing, though when I tried to fit them it was a no go and had to reuse the old ones... pretty cool temp on the Qx at 4ghz around 35°C idle and topping at 57°C under small FFT's ( all coretemps due to Vista )... gonna clean my Thermochill triple rad and use these 3/8's too instead of my thinner tubing...

That's an option Nf, but the Swiftech rad is already pretty thick, if you have a thermochill that's even thicker. Me and Nilos transport their pc's regularly to LAN's so a rad on the bottom could be easily damaged... I prefer it to have on the inside as the tubing is also easier to do...
If you look closely the rad is only mounted via 2 screws on Acryl plates...pump also rests on a foam (for vibrations) so the complete setup is pretty easily removable... but a rad on the outside would have made the installation way easier....
I'm looking for a Cosmos S modded case, as I think I can put my Thermochill triple rad on the top of the case... but haven't seem many mods on that case ( yet )
Like I said before the Stacker is huge though once you put in 4 Hd's and 2 optical drives things can get stuffed, and without a modular PSU things get pretty messy on top...

Evga 750i FTW
Swiftech h20-120 Compact

nb fan has an Antec Stealth on it instead of the leaf blower stock one. If you own this wonderful board, a better fan is a must! Yes, my Dominator fan is missing 6 screws - I just did a diagonal pattern after stripping 2 of them modding the fan. I put in 3 Mini Kazes, and there is a big difference in dBa - another suggestion worth thinking about.

Yeah, its a Swiftech H20-120 Compact. Quite a nifty kit for the small case even though I usually go with discrete parts in most of my rigs. This makes for a clean build, which again, is great for a small case and for optimization of space/value/performance. I use Swiftech Hydro-X in this with a mixture of Fluid-XP+ [clear].
Edit: its around 32 idle/53 load
WOW some great looking rigs, got some great ideas for some upgrades. Here is my Mountain Mods UFO Horizon case. It's been through a few biulds but I luv the dam thing, it's been a great case, an so easy to work on with the horizonal Mobo tray.

I would think that it makes for easier fill-ups and less chance of leakage into the computer case ... I like the idea of external reservoirs ... :)

Thanks ya all, I wish my wife liked it as much.....LOL I found out in other rigs I had that the more fluid you have the slower heat soak becomes an issue and there outside the warmth inside the case, so at the time those were the largest resevoir availible (250cc) and yes it very easy to fill and work on. and they would not fit in case anyways, I ran out of room...LOL each loop holds over 32oz of fluid. I also included a night shot.

I tried that and I had no room it is very tight in there, the 5 HDDs are right there. might move pump all the way to other side next to other pump.

any problems getting room temp ―" ID tubing over them or did you have to use the hot water trick?
pvtdonuts

I'm actually using 7/16 tubing and even with that all u need to do is wet the barbs alittle and they slide right on, getting em off is pretty tough b/c of the ridges, but thats why I dont use clamps or zipties this time around. The barbs look really nice too, with 1/2 i think they could slide on very easy

This will sound wierd lol, but I sometimes use a waterbased lubricant (yer laugh all you want guys)

Dawgdoc
04-25-2008, 01:49 AM
Knet I would get rid of those elbows. 90 degree elbows are HIGHLY restrictive and dramatically reduce flow through the loop.
2 X 45s would be better, but best would really be just the tube with a slight arc to it.
knet370
04-25-2008, 01:59 AM
i know, i know.. :) i ran out of tubes.
And you definitely have to throw away those UGLY smartcoils...why do people still use them, I really don't understand that.....just buy reasonable tygon? I use tygon for about 3,5 years now and never had any kink. and believe me, my previous loops were tight bended. just buy r3400 with thicker walls.

I've had Tygon flatten on me even on even on easy gentle curves...gave up on the stuff due to cost.
zlojack
04-25-2008, 07:39 AM
I use smartcoils because my tygon was starting to kink on the curves. I am probably going to remove it from the longer runs of tubing though, because I'm beginning to find it tacky.
nonsense, buy some 1/2 ID 3/4 OD uv resistant r3400 and I'll assure you it doenst kink.
All smaller sizes have thinner walls, I had 3/8 once, but that sucked ass with tight bends. And in some way the r3400 black uv-resistant tubes perform way better as the clear ones :S I've had all kinds of tubing and doing this for about 5 years so I know what I'm talking about :)
But If you don't mind how it looks, it doesn't matter offcourse ;)
System looks great btw!

how i wish i didnt needed the smartcoils. prob is, i got a 5/8 od and it kinks really really bad. especially the run on the cpu block to the single rad on the exhaust. man it kinks so bad i had to use smartcoils. but i totally agree smartcoils looks ugly..i may have to use 3/4od the next time i change tubes. for now, it does the trick.

and yes, the pump really is on a limit. i bought the pump, cpu-cooler and radiator from a friend, so i was thinking about adding a second laing ddc (maybe the ultra version) after the nb. i was just wondering, if this really helps my temps (53° at full load; Q6600 b3-stepping @3,2ghz 1,36V).
but i guess it's of-topic in this thread, isn't it?

I think it's not to bad. The Laing should be enough for that setup. I'm running with an Eheim 1048 with CPU/GPU/NB/SB/Mosfets and a 3x120mm rad. I know i could use a better pump but my setup is working fine with good temps. His Laing is alot stronger than my pump.

As for everyone hating Tt, yeah kinda. When they decide to leave the Alum for their cases only and make quality WCing products that work well, attitudes around here may change. I mean, ppl can only put up with pumps quitting, res's cracking, weak flow, poorly designed or alum rads, and cpu blocks cracking for so long before they rise up and beat the snot out of someone. ;)

what temps do you get ?

Yea, I know all about too many 90's and the T's. It was done that way so that the case is still 100% stock.
As for temps I've got a Q6600 running @ 3.6G and it never gets above 42-43C with ambiant around 22-23C running stress test.
Oh the thing you can't tell what it is....it's a 4 into 1 for running 1/4" tubing for the memory.

the psu cables are sleeved, the extra cables are witout sleeve (the small lcd on the top, the molex-3pin adapter, led and other).

At benching overclocks(which is worst case) depends on realtemp or coretemp. Using coretemp it's about 55C full load and low 40's idle. Realtemp after calibration shows about 10-15C cooler. Thats with QX9650 at 4.5Ghz and 1.57V(the bench speeds). North bridge gets to about 42C with 1.65V under full load.
http://home.comcast.net/~aicjofs/Untitled.jpg
Fans are Yateloon D12SL's. Loudest part is the DVD rom at spin up.
D5 pump.
Glad everyone likes the colors. It was tough getting the liquid to match the GPU shroud. I keep thinking I should have powder coated the inside red...I have sample pictures of colors I'll post later. Next one I'm going to try will be a blue interior.
On that note anyone know about the fans in the OCZ RAM cooler. The LED's are a terribly bright blue. I was thinking 1) snap off the LED's but I don't know for sure they aren't in series with stator, 2) Black nail polish over them, 3) Replace...but I can't find any replacement fans that are thin enough.
Thanks for all the kind comments, because I have seen a lot of TJ07 mods that seem better.
EDIT:
What case is that and how did you mod that side panel?
Silverstone TJ07. I didn't have to mod the side panel, they have one with a window. That said, I DO want to mod the side panel. I'd like to try drilling some holes and placing LEDs in the acrylic so that the outer edge of the window will glow red. I have wanted to do that mod since the beginning but I never get around to ordering the LED's.
Cheers

Indeed, Love the red liquid with black hoses but love the alu GTX less.
Leaving the long running alum/nickel plated/multi metal loop corrosion debate out of it. I think you might be right for just the reason that the copper top replacement might give a more uniform appearance with the copper NB/SB/Regulator heatpipe assembly. I might just do that change, although the GTX holddown will still be silver in color...
Aicjofs, that's my case of choice and a very nice setup up. One question though. How did you get the rear covers and internal structure black? Did you paint them yourself, or is Silverstone now offering it like that off the shelf?
No Silverstone doesn't offer it(they should though huh? :D ) As you probably know the TJ07 comes almost completely apart so powder coating it is easy. Putting all the screws in every hole of the motherboard trays keeps the holes from filling up during the powder coating with the added side effect of having black screws to work with in the end, downside was there seems like 100 holes in that tray. The painting the backside kind of just happened. The masking wasn't good enough and there was a bit of overspary through the air vents near the i/o shield area so the backside got completely powder coated and then the extra power supply grill too to match. I actually do like it better that way.
Here is the unused hard drive cages painted up with some different powder coats to to see some different ideas. Nothing was masked and some sides are coated with different color on top of each other so there is some bleed through. The black in the case was like 90% gloss, I wasn't too fond of it as it ends up a finger print magnet, something with a little more texture on the next build I think will be better. I like the black classic look myself but some people like the flash and bling so had to look at other color schemes too.
Higher gloss Red and White
http://home.comcast.net/~aicjofs/Red_white.JPG
Here's a ugly funky green(You could match the Nvidia green exact if you wanted too, which might look cool, actually if you look at the picture above on the lower left of the red you can see what the green looks like, lighting wasn't good for any of these pictures) and some textured blue.
http://home.comcast.net/~aicjofs/Green_Texture_blue.JPG
The texture up close.
http://home.comcast.net/~aicjofs/Close_up_texture.JPG
A blue (with the bleed through that isn't in the finished product), and a black texture that almost looks dark blue in this lighting. Sorry for the poorly lighted low res pics, but just trying to show ideas.
