only thing I need now is to make a bracket to support the 8800GTX from being weighed down like that by the waterblock, its fairly heavy and that's why it looks bent

Wow,
great looking build, but yeah, you really do need to do something about that Vcard. doesn't effect my build becuase the MB's horizontal, but with the EK blocks, I was always concerned for anyone mounting it in a standard build, because the blocks so heavy.
great looking build, really clean and well done. I'd hate to see something bad happen, so prop it up with anything while your fab'ing your bracket.

@perfection very nice and compact watercooling rig, it looks awesome. it whould be perfect if you whould have turned that rad the other way around. therefore it would have made the tubing even shorter, but looks good that way too.

I've got another free day today, being the easter long weekend. I've still got a Lian Li PC75 side panel I was going to cut up for something I can't remember, I wish I had a dremel :( but I've got a nibbler tool so I get started on making that bracket.
Hopefully, it'll be done by this arvo, I'll post pics up when its finished

I dont think a single 120.1 could give you these temps:

The case is a armor. Im pretty much at its limit now. Im thinking of moving to a UFO dualy for the room, or a horizon. Havent figured it out yet, but i'll have one next month.
Loop order is:
DDC-2 (1) -> PA120.2 -> DD680i -> DDC-2 (2) -> MCW30 -> BIGTS -> GPU1 -> GPU2 -> EK Res.
And why i kept the 90 is because i dont really have to worry about restrictions. 2 x DDC-2 /w petras top is a TONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN of flow.

well my house is set to 68F (20C) but i live in the basement so its like 17c ambient. temps according to core temp 0.94 are core 0 21c core 1 17c at stock settings while idling and 26c and 21c at load. highest ive seen it hit was 40c at load was when i was at 2.9ghz @ 1.5v. idled at 27c. those temps are with the IHS on.
i love office space! :D
i have to tweak my settings because its not completely stable. fails orthos at priority 8 within minutes no matter what voltage i use. but i think either my motherboard, psu or windows is flaking out on me. when i get home, im gonna put a fresh install of XP home (no vista for me till DX10 games lol) on her and see if it helps. if that doesnt work, then the psu is next. all the voltages are pretty low and i think its what caused the cold boot and eventual death of my first sli-dr. stinking Antec NeoHE (Neo Heap of Excrement) 550 psu :slapass:
thanks to everyones comments. it was my first attempt and i think it was successful. definitely reached a new level here :)

Thats inside my NAS, and i swear its quieter then the old seasonic 450. Actually the entire setup was ment for quiet, so i cant hear it at all really. And its been giving the NAS some pretty stable loads. It folds most of the time unless i need it to play HTPC role.

Thanks, I ran a 1 & 1/4" 6-32 machine bolt through the fan grill, a rubber washer, the fan body, into the radiator. I tapped the rad to 6-32 prior to assembly of course. The case is a Lian Li PC-7077B. The fans are Yate Loons controlled by a Sunbeam rheobus, usually at 7v. All you can hear is the air moving, the fans themselves make virtually no noise.

i go off of what the bios reports. not sure exactly off the top of my head what the voltages are but the 12v is something like 11.7. the 5v and 3.3v are within spec. i just might be anal about it, but i dont like seeing my 12v doing a roller coaster lol. also my cpu voltages usually droop (ill set 1.45 and it shows 1.42 probably due to the board itself) and jump a bit in the bios. im probably just being paranoid but i bought the original NeoHE before the asus problem had been discovered/fixed. :stick: looks like ill have to get a multimeter and check it out

Yes, do so. My bios reports low on the 12V rail as well (11.86 or something like that) but it really is not that low. Also my vcore was supposedly bouncing all over when the CPU wasn't under load, but a DMM verified it wasn't, and actually showed that the board overvolts my CPU by 0.06 volts. So I have my bios set to 1.3V and my CPU gets 1.36V (which is just about stock for it, 1.35V is stock).
You'd think that it shouldn't be that hard to put an accurate voltmeter on these boards but I guess the mobo mfr's haven't figured it out yet

I guess I should add my own pics of my frankenbuild already. I have had this setup for a little while now, just never posted pics of it before. All the specs (mostly in my sig already) and more info (and technically all the same pictures too) at = http://www.gt-clan.net/kuhlas_stuff/specs_wpage/index.html. Yes I know it is ugly but it will be put in a new case eventually that will be properly modified to fit everything inside it. The case it is in right now I started to modify then gave up from frustration due to poor planning. Its a modified Antec Super Lanboy. wht r the WC specs ??
Get rid of all the 90 deg barbs, they kill the flow way too much.
PilatuS
04-13-2007, 01:18 PM
The figures are from Counter-Strike. My sister bought those for me when she was in china.
Here are the full WC specs:
Alphacool Nexxos HP Pro Socket 775.
Alphacool Nexxos NVXP3 ATI.
Alphacool Nexxos Xtreme 3.
Eheim 1048.
2x Papst 120mm 4412F/2GLL for the rad. (Really should get a third one)
Coolplex 25.
Tygon 8x1.5.
I know the 90 deg barbs are not good for the flow but the WC setup is for silence not for nice temps.

Pilatus, nice case! How hard was the sound management foam to install and cut? What are your temps, I've always wondered if the foam affects temps, but if the whole system is minimal noise themed, I guess it wouldn't be accurate to judge the temps on just the foam. This is off topic, but I like the blinds/shades in the background, I am looking to alter that aspect of my computer room, any idea about the specifics on the material?

hey macubex, what kinda temps do you get?
Well, most of you will probably won't be able to relate to my temps since where I live is usually hotter, but if you want I'll give you my current readings anyway:
According to my thermometer, right now my room temp is about 31C. Yeah, is hot in here.
CPU: E6600 @ 3.3GHz, 1.4312v in BIOS, 1.39v in SpeedFan and Everest
CPU Idle Temp: 37C in SpeedFan, 36C in Nvidia Monitor, 41/43C in Core Temp.
CPU Orthos Load Temp: 43~44C Speed Fan, 43C Nvidia Monitor, 47C Core Temp.
System Temp (Mobo Temp) Idle: 39C in Nv Monitor and in Everest
System Temp (Mobo Temp) Orthos Load: 39C in Nv Monitor and Everest (Yeah same as idle, go figure)
GPU: EVGA 8800GTX (605 / 950 MHz)
GPU Temp Idle: 45C in Nv Monitor, Riva Tuner and ATI Tool
GPU ATI Tool 3D View/Artifact Scan Load Temp: 51C in Nv Monitor, RivaTuner and ATI Tool

Tnx :)
The foam was really easy to cut en put in. 2 square meters of the stuff was only 7 euro's so if i messed up i did not matter. I did make a few mistakes with the cutting but i just did it over again.
My temps are okay but not really good. The CPU is idle about 40 degrees and the GPU is about 45. Stressed the CPU goes up to about 50 and 55 for the GPU. The temps could be alot better with the fans on 12 volt but i like the silence when they are on 6 volts. CPU temps come from TAT. GPU temps are from ATI Tool.
I think the foam does make the temps a bit higher but not much. The temps where about the same when the foam was not in it yet. The foam is more for the looks than really for more silence. I dont like to look at the alluminium of the case so i put the foam in. My old PC had the same stuff in it.
What do you mean exactly with the blinds/shades in the background ?

hey auroraproject:
what did you cut your holes with?
is HydrX and distilled the ONLY thing in your loop? no other additives?
how heavy is the 7B plus?
I cut the holes with a jig saw.
Yes, HydrX and distilled water only.
Shipping weight on the 7B was 15 pounds, box and packing was maybe 2 pounds, so 13 pounds.

I would have flipped the rad upside down so the barbs were on the bottom to make for shorter tubing..:woot:
I did the same thing when I did my 1st watercooling setup...live and learn...that was before I went to a lian-li v2000b and did everything internal...

Would flipping the rad upside down affect the flow much? Seems like it would, but having seen a bunch of WCers with upside down rads, it probably doesn't, or at least, not enough to matter.

I'm using the MCP655. As for the way I mounted it, I would have mounted it inside the case, inplace of the 2 120mm fan slots. But decided not to because there is a lot of heat coming off the board. I really didnt want my temps to be affected. And since the case already comes predrilled with 2 holes, there wasnt any need for me to mod. I did consider flipping it upside down and have one tube pass through the pci bracket but like I said I still would have to have drilled another hole.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with end result and thanks for the comments.

Open or closed, it doesn't make a difference. Once the water level in your reservoir drops low, the pump will start sucking in the air again and round it goes. You'll have to put a sponge in if you have that problem or keep it completely filled, which is near impossible.

NEvolution: if you could remove that tank top, much better for you.
btw are you planning to close your side panel? if so where would you route your tubing.
NEvolution
04-22-2007, 11:03 AM
I plan on cutting one of the horizontal PCI supports so the tubing can go through the top PCI slot plus the extra space from the support.
So are you saying that I should remove the tank top and just use the Alphacool top?
Would I need to run a T-Line since I don't have a res/water tank anymore?
septim
04-22-2007, 01:47 PM
ah so don't forget to file/sand the edges or put some rubber edge trims/hole gromets so as not to damage tubing.
btw do you have some pics of your cpu block's inner workings?

Edit:
Would it be a good idea to move the inlet barb that goes into the water tank to go directly into the Alphacool Top? So as to reduce the turbulance/vortex. (While still keeping the water tank on as a reservoir.)
As in, moving it from the top position to the currently unoccupied location.

hmm... i disagree. I've see these tops used before and as NEvolution points out, the small size and design create a lot of turbulence and is quite a headache to bleed completely.
Leaving the top off results in sloshing water that splashes out.
I think moving the inlet barb into the inlet of the pump is not a bad idea.
the reservoir would then act more like a t-line and not be subject to direct flow thereby reducing turbulence / sloshing.
*edit: Cool block design btw

btw - NEvolution, by looking at your blocks you obviously have the skills and tools...
why don't you drill out two holes above your video card slot on your case and flip your radiator so the barbs point towards your case?
you would drastically reduce the amount of tubing and you'd then also be able to actually put a side panel on.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I have gone through with it and I now have absolutely no bubbles and stream of air bubbles.

Actually I plan on cutting the metal PCI support bar on top the video card so that the tubing can go through there.
If that doesn't work well, I guess I'll try drilling a hole where you suggested.
By the way, the block is handmade by FstFrddy from the forums.

v1.0 deceased. VRegs crushed by a not-so-well mounted cooling block. RIP.
I had to "rework" this TT Armor quite a bit to fit my "vision" inside (and outside :P)
Apart from the obvious differences with the stock one (top-front USBs, bulgin switches, custom delrin top, magnets) there's quite a bit of filing, nibbling, removing and shuffling involved :D
Once you start installing things in places where they are not supposed to be, everything seems to get in the way, even the left reinforcement bar and the PSU support bracket, which had to be modified and moved to fit the pump/res assembly ^^

Custom delrin top:
Even with positive air pressure too much dust/debris was entering the enclosure from the top. Besides, the stock design didn't look very good once I removed the plastic cover to fit the reservoir and the top USB/Firewire/Audio connectors were gone.
Delrin came to the rescue ^^. Aluminium 6mm spacers were used in order to leave a gap for the hot air to escape. They are barely noticeable in the picture, but the bolts are SS316 countersunk hex, which I think look gorgeous :p I suppose not to everyone's taste, but certainly to mine.

I have that same Corsair unit, it is really really nice. Minor complaint is there are 2 separate lines for the 4 pin and the 8 pin connectors for the CPU power but neither are modular, so you have to hide the one you don't use. The 24pin cable is a bit stiff and could be a bit more flexible but it isn't bad. The unit is very nice overall :)

Agree. Given is either or, I'd have made those connectors modular. I must admit I don't know if the reason why are fixed is purely cost related or there's something in the specification that prevents this feature (insertion loss, mechanical characteristics...)
But it does what it says in the box. In my setup is silent, provides stable voltages across the board, if both the manufacturers and third parties figures are right it's fairly efficient, helps with cable routing and is not painful to look at.

I have the Corsair HX620W also, my only complaint is the use of proprietary connectors at the psu end of the modular cables. My Silverstone Strider 750 uses standard molex plugs, so I can make my own wire runs as needed. Other than that no complaints at all.

Front USB, magnets and switches detail:
I Don't particularly like the top placement of the USBs in the stock TT Armor. And the tendency of the "doors" to open by themselves http://forum.overclock3d.net/oc3d_gfx/smilies/cussing.gifhttp://forum.overclock3d.net/oc3d_gfx/smilies/cussing.gifhttp://forum.overclock3d.net/oc3d_gfx/smilies/cussing.gifhttp://forum.overclock3d.net/oc3d_gfx/smilies/cussing.gifes me off big time, hence the visible 1.5kg magnets.
Finally, using a whole 5 1/4 bay just for the power/reset switch wasn't my cup of tea.

During the week I barely have time to do anything, and when I do I'm playing Oblivion :D
I'll post proper stock / oc-ed temps over the weeked. For now Idle temps @stock are:
Ambient: 19
Water: 24
GPU (8800GTX): 39
CPU (X6800): C1 > 36, C2> 38
Not that impressive I'm afraid. We'll see load...
And I've the feeling I will have to re-mount the CPU. Those 2C difference between cores smell to bad mount / uneven TIM to me.
Edit:
I made a quick (16 min) Orthos run and temps went up to: C1 > 41 / C2 > 43
Water temp went up to 25.

I have that difference between core 1/2 too...tried in all the ways remounting the wb but nothing happens...could be the socket ritention not very straight and of consequence the wb has a bad contact ;)

I am using a Laing DDC-T with the Watercool DDC-Tank LT. No bubbles or whirlpool in there, works very fine. Then a NexXxos XP CPU Cooler, Cooltek Exstream Dualradiator with two loonies and as you can see Tygontube.:)

btw, are those the stock 80mm fans from Thermaltake?
word of advice, change em up soon, they're quit whiny after a few months.
for the front 2 80mms, you could mod to accomodate 2 120mms, for the back single 120mm fans.

I used thick adhesive foam to friction mount the PA120.3 in the front, forgot to take any pics during the build sorry. As for specs, eVGA 680i A1, E6400 (OC 3.0ghz), 4gigs OCZ PC-8500 SLI rdy, 2x eVGA 8800GTS 640mb, Corsair HX620, WD Raptor 74g, Seagate Barracuda 250g, Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty. Replaced the stock NB and SB cooling with Evercool VC-RE's, temps from core temp read my cpu at 41 idle, 48 load, gpu's are around 43-49 idle.
