Ferrari_Freak...Larger tubes donīt mean better performnce, this is not theory i proved myself, with the same hardware, changed the pump, cpu block and tubing and the temperatures remain the same.Ok larger tube has is beauty ,but "Bigger is better" doesn't aplly here (germans now what they do).:stick: ;More update...zalman Nb cooler.
Please do some reading around here before you make blanket statements . I really dont want to get into this debate, but...
1. 7/16" ID tubing with 1/2" barbs is the best overall compromise between performance and size.
2. The idea that small tubes and low flow, which some german watercooling manufactures have been poisining minds with for years now is completely false. If you dont believe me ask around here or anyone you might happen to know with a physics degree.

This is my first setup. It's with the free after rebate ultra wizard mid-tower. Case is a little nicked up even though I masking taped everything because I'm a complete noob at any type of physical work. I used a 4.5" holesaw and smoked up my old power drill trying.
Components:
Apogee, DDC2 + Petra's top, MCW60, zalman ramsinks for 7900gs, thermalright hr05 nb heatsink, 7/16 masterkleer, mc microres, coolingworks coolrad 22t, 4 yate sl's in push/pull intake for rad.
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/526/picture001in6.jpg
Honestly, I can see why this case was free after rebate. Initial fiddling showed the case as decent. But once you get involved, you quickly realize all its shortcomings. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the drive cages have room for 4 external 5.25, 3 external 3.5", and 2 internal 3.5". However, the front bezel only has room to implement 3 external 5.25" (2 of which get dominated by the rad setup), 1 3.5" external in a 5.25" caddy, and the rest all internal.
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/7676/picture002ph7.jpg
Here's a shot with the drive covers removed so you can get a better look. It looks like it's really close to the bottom, but there's about half an inch or a little more, and the airflow isn't all too bad. It turned out to be surprisingly well positioned. I didn't realize until after I was done that I only had a margin of error of about 1/2" front to back, without hitting the front rail or psu in the back. To get to the psu, the rad has to be removed, so hopefully the pos ultra 500w v power won't fail again too soon ;) (hey it was free after rebate!).
http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/2571/picture003tx6.jpg
Here's the main shot. I had to make a notch in the lower left where the lip is for the side panel rails (done after picture was taken). It allows me to remove the motherboard without removing anything else, except for the rear 120mm exhaust. I had a hell of a time getting the brackets on the mc microres, and ended giving up and just using the velcro approach. It's actually more stable than I had imagined. Also, for the ddc, I drilled two holes for it, but then ended up rotating it 90 degrees, which obsoleted the holes. I ended up just using the adhesive neoprene pad it came with. Also, since the base panel of the ultra wizard isn't flat (what the hell!!!), it was a pain in the ass, but surprisingly, the neoprene was extremely flexible and adapted to it just fine.
I used the front barb on the rad for the cpu to avoid too sharp a turn. This meant that I had to use the inner barb to connect to the ddc. I hope it's not killing flow to the ram too much. Maybe I'll get those active ram coolers in the future.
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/4527/picture008wc9.jpg
Nothing about watercooling in this shot, but something I picked up from some of your posts, and really liked the idea. Routing cables through back here really takes care of a lot of the mess!! I'm still thinking of 7volting the fans, which is why I haven't tied the wiring down a bit more yet. In a case like the ultra wizard, where it wasn't designed to have you route wires back there, the mobo tray lip comes up pretty much right to where the side panel would be. This makes closing the panel a little harder, but it's not really a problem.
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8830/picture009halfyl9.jpg
Final pic of a closeup of the holes I made for the top. You can really see the scratches here, where I slipped once when I was drilling the first hole. I got a lot better on the second one, but both look similar in the picture. Rad is attached simply with 8 #6-32 1.5" screws going top down through the grill, case, fan, and into the rad. Bottom yates are attached with #6-32 1.25" screws.

Thanks for the tip. But the front bezel is plastic and is pretty scratched up, along with the finish in general. It's really a free after rebate case, so I didn't care for it too much. Maybe I should have. But if I do ever get a halfway decent case, I was definitely take your suggestion into account.
Also, just a curiousity question: I know computers weren't designed like cars and there's no need for it, but I couldn't help but notice that the chassis more or less becomes common ground. Maybe there could be whatever advantages to that? I'm trying to think up ideas still. But when painted, it'd be obviously insulated and out of the question
As for serial, keep it up man. It reminds me of a time when I was 13. You're doing good (or well if you prefer ;))

Haha, I just really love posting for some reason. When I get a chance I just sit down and take off. And if you noticed, not a lot of my posts are BSish spam. I just feel like sharing my knowledge, and I do this everywhere I go, so I think you guys know what they think of me:D I don't mind, I mean helping people out just feels like the right thing to do. I helped 2 people at school get their rigs together but they ended up getting SH*T stuff because they're not very smart. One guy I gave a sheet with a full system recommendation, and his dad decided to go to fry's, pick up a e6600 and a 7900gs but guess what? some super sh*tty 80 dollar ram that the guy didn't know what it was called. An ECS Elitegroup motherboard (I was laughing really hard at this one), and OMFG thermaltake watercooling. I was like gomfg dude, wtf is wrong with you. He's like "I got a good case, it was 40 bucks and its plastic". which is stupid. The other dude I helped out earlier, and he got a mobo with integrated graphics and a x2 3800 and he claimed his computer was good... Anyways, nice rigs guys, and like ya, I think I have to cut down on the crazy posting. I have this "computer programming" class at school but its all BS and the teacher doesn't know anything about programming, so its FREE TIME!!! Some people play halo (yes, halo at school on macintoshes) and I do a couple posts, take a look at some stuff here and there:D Hopper, I really like that ribbon cable mod thing! And I think we all have to admit but german wcing systems with small tubes look really nice. I guess that's the principle thermaltake crap is built on: cheapness and looks first, performance last:D In every review of thermaltake WCing I have ever seen, all of them said it looked hella nice, but very few said it performed well:D Even their coolant, which actually performed very well, as one review put it, "glowed the most obnoxiously". I laugh at thermaltake. Seems like they're more into cosmetics for PCs rather than anything else.

Hey, its a Repack 5.25" Lexan res..
its made from black lexan with some nice acrylic on the front, and comes with a UV LED.
The only issue is that it doesn't hold so much water, so takes a little while longer than some of the larger res's to bleed...

Well since I havebeen looking at these forums quite a bit, I figured I would contribute.
This is my 2nd project system. First PC I put together was a couple months ago, and it seems I was just not happy with it, so I got a few more parts, and a new case, and this is the result.
Wires have been cleaned up a bit, but I amstill pretty new to WCing as well as building a PC in general. Feel free to critique, and toss some tips my way.

Im curious as to why you put watercooling on your chipset before your videocards. Passive on the videocards?

I get that question a lot. Here is why:
1. I hate Asus chipset fans. They go out...and go out whining.
2. This was my first real attempt at WCing...and putting a PC together, so I wanted to keep it simple.
3. I didnt want to buy 2 blocks and then change cards and they become useless.
4. I LOVE the way the passive HS look...and they work great too.

I will agree, Thermalright makes a nice heatsink... got the SI-120 and HR-05 myself.
If you got the MCW60 blocks for your videocards, assuming theyre a GeForce 7 series, once you got the 8 series card, you just get the G80 mounting plate thats that.

sry I did not want to make a new thread but maybe someone can answer me since it has to do with case situation. In this setup the pump is mounted next to the reservoir.

But I've heard it's better to mount the pump at the bottom most of the case. So how could it work next to the reservoir?
This is much more convenient for me because my hard drive cage is mounted so it blocks a pump from being stored down there. Or does anyone have any suggestions for where the pump should be located. It's an ultra aluminus but I am looking at a gigabyte aurora 3d.
sry again I am a watercooling novice and I guess this has to do with cases.

I took this last week off and put together my new rig. I have to give thanks and credit to Theorie and his rig. (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1123872) I have totally stolen and used his ideas to my benefit. :D Enjoy the pics...
Here's my original setup in a Silverstone TJ06 case.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y182/Sideroxylon/IMG_0487.jpg
It was a good case but airflow in the top chamber was really bad. Only ventilation was my psu. And, as you can see, I was using most available space.
Here's the new setup in a Silverstone TJ07 case.

My cleverly hidden mess of wires. Fans are all controlled with the the TBan BigNG. BEST fan controller ever!!!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y182/Sideroxylon/IMG_0494.jpg
Pretty happy with the way it turned out. Took more work to get everything the way I wanted than I thought it would, but that's ok. It was fun. This case is great to work in and on. Everything is screwed together. There are only a couple rivets in the whole thing. So, it makes it real easy to pull something off and mod it if needed.
Specs are in sig

I used to run two 90* barbs. They really did hurt flow. Not TERRIBLY but they hurt it enough.
Try blowing through one, then through a straight barb. You'll be like, "wow, that really is restrictive."

Some guy calculated that a 90 degree barb was like adding an extra foot of tubing. I think its more than that though. Its important to not have sharp bends and 90 degree barbs, because they will cause turbulence and restriction.

You just had to say something didn't you?
Bah!! I've run those barbs on that res now in 3 different setups. Never noticed a difference from when I was running straight barbs. Also, I just installed a Fuzion wb and my flow has increased dramatically. So much flow now my res makes too much noise. Any more flow and the noise would be intolerable.
Temps are at 37c idle and 53c load @ 1.425v in bios, 1.38v in CPUZ, with 4 instances of SP2004. I think I can live with a couple 90's on the loop.

I might put a window in the side but not so much for looks as for functionality. My last setup ended up developing a leak that I didn't find for weeks due to not being able to see inside the case. I'm going for the 'clean and sleek' look not the 'look at me I got bling' look. We'll see how it works out. As with all of my rigs, it's a work in progress.

first of all...
great job on your blocks.
so - don't mind the naysayers... keep on building blocks. If it works - stick with it.
most of us here have no room to talk since we just buy our blocks from the aftermarket...
but - to add some constructive criticism... in terms of your hard drive blocks...
most of what I've read show that there isn't much benefit to cooling hard drives from the side...
if you could design a block that cools the drive from the bottom (including the chipsets), I think you would have far better results.

Uh oh, take a close look at the second last picture... THERMALTAKE COPY!!! but worse:( dude seriously, like what is with that design...
from a guy who makes his own blocks, I would think that you'd be a little more forgiving on criticizing other attempts at making homemade blocks....
though his design may not be 100% orginal, fact is, he made his own blocks and made them work in an effective system....
i've seen your straight-channel work serialk11r - which i commend... but who's to assume that your design is superior to his? ....

Well, it has never been the aim to build a high performance CPU-block when i made this. I just wanted to get my rig quiet and cool, and thats exactly what it is now. So i decided to make a simple block, because that was much easier and faster to built. And for me it works quite well. ;) By the way: This block was made in the year 2002 an already worked in my first watercooled rig. Thermaltake wasn't even in watercooling at this time. :D
To the HDD-blocks: I can't imagine that it would be more effective to cool the drives on the bottom, as the area of contact to the block would be much smaller. The HDDs internal sensors give me constantly 3-4 K over the temperature of the water, so everything seems to work alright.

BigKahuna nice jop there and thanks for the close ups.
true they don't seem to be high performance blocks, but bloodyhell it's not that simple to make blocks if you dont have any fancy gear to do it with,
and atleast you took time and effort to make em, thats something that i respect highly. :toast:
btw my german is a bit rusty but i had to check out your project log and i've got to say that you have a really cool case mod.

Look at the wires going to it... it looks like a TEC. The wires are on the left.
Nice, I didn't notice. However that block design is like a copy of the thermaltake design...
Nevermind serialk11r... I was wrong, not a TEC. Look at the pictures, the close up ones. The wires are for the white LEDs.
Nice blocks... the barbs look restrictive though.

lol, from a guy who was struggling to even cut copper
you *ss i was using a stupid saw...
hey I was saying, instead of that really restrictive design a few straight channels would work better. You know thermaltake's "aquarius 2" vga block? well that thing is a 180 degree bend cut into a piece of copper. It was more restrictive than a danger den maze 4 and had much worse temps. Google it. Look I have a hacksaw, hand held drill and nothing more. If I were this guy I really would have done a few straight channels.... But apart from the CPU block the rest was a really nice job.
EDIT: *gulp* you said thermaltake wasn't around when you made it??????////!!!!!!!!!! omfg.... you should sue thermaltake for stealing your design, because their block is exactly the same as yours, but CNCed, and with a blue LED...

The MIPS are cooling all mosfets, the Heatraps just the half. But it even works without any cooling for the mosfets, so i decided to go with the part that is half of the price as MIPS costs.. Enough money for an optical gimmick tbh. :D

Looks like that block fits in with the stock heatsink like a puzzle piece. I would be worried that the block isnt making good contact with the stock heatsinks, if that is how the block is made.

The Heatsinks are soldered on to the bord! On the DFI they make very good contact as alll have cooled them with a fan and touched them and they get hot.
If you look at the photos you'll see it fits very tightly. I guess you could even use some AS5 inbetwen the heatsink and block to get something extra out of it.
I just really want one for my BX2

lol... it was some of my old tubing i had lying around.. when i plumbed up the GPU loops, i didn't have any new tubing left so i had to resort to some old tubing i had lying around...but looks quite nice changing colours.
The rig consists of 3 separate loops cooling different components. CPU being blue, GPU being green/oarange and all the peripherals on orange/red

His pump is good, dude. His loop is going in the opposite direction of that which you perceive. ... unless im the one whos mis-perceiving something here:confused:
He is cooling the GPU first, which is actually a logical idea seeing that it is more expensive.

Hes pulling the water out of his res, through his Storm and then through his GPU block. His loop is operating under a vacuum of sorts, not positive pressure like it "should" be.

That is not good, because the positive pressure at the discharge would probably make water flow much more than the "low pressure zone" created by the suction and letting the "normal" pressured water fill it up. Thats why a vacuum cleaner has a super powerful fan but the suction is way weaker than the power of air blowing out.
lol, that custom radiator stands are weird but kind of nice :D

I have 10+ Coolermaster cases here (ATCS Chassis) and NONE of em uses 92mm fans ;) All except the Praetorian 730/732 (120mm intake) have 80mm fans.

That rig isn't exactly silent and the fans run with only 5V - so the fans aren't louder than the other parts.

jesus christ anarchy that's insane :). Have you looked into a larger fan with a shroud? Hell for something that size, you might be able to look for car radiator fan+shroud units to put on. Then again, the fan would probably eat lots of amps, although it would run at 12v. It'd be hella loud though, I'd guess. Maybe with a rheobus or something to it, it'd tame it down to some really low rpm, be pretty inaudible, and still push lots of air, compared to 9 yates at 5v
