The Alienware W/C is kinda gay. Its got corrugated 1/4" hoses, a tiny pump, and a single 120mm Radiator. The waterblock is pretty simple, and theres a fan over it.

Not as nice as most that's for sure. But here's mine anyway. I'm replacing my res with one of EK's. On the hoses they are only a week or so old but where it looks like air; it's some kind of spider web looking marks. No idea.

Hows that upside down heatpipe working out for you? I've heard those northbridges heat up insane when using an inverted motherboard settup.

hehe, it does look like it, but no. If you look reeealy closely you can see a rig that bolts to the mobo mount that its mounted to. it can actually leak w/ out touching the video card unless the case is on its side. they dont actually line up though it looks like it. the mount its sitting on can swing out so I can fill it up and swing it back in.

I would never water cool in that case. Either go air or use thinner tubes.

That hose that disappears behind the big wires there, is that a kink I see back there?

 Yeah, I think so too. Dude you should check that out. Any way you can go straight from the rad to the block or would that be too sharp?

:EDIT: How about also trying to shorten the distance between res and CPU block.

Btw, Foxy_PT, that rig looks awesome.

Yea thanks I did see that. I fixed it with the spring like material around the tube works great. I tried going the direct route but it does not work with that tubing I bought. Need to find more flexible stuff.

i know what you mean by stiff tubing, looks same as mine which i had to muscle behind my mobo try via some 2inch hole i made hehehe.

you'd probably have to wire it 1 by 1 starting with the smaller wires then last the atx20/24 molex, try put them behind the elbowed bay res, and don't give up because they're stiff, you can do it!

I took 30min to change the cablemanagement today and this is how it ended up.

Thx dude! :)
The res is awesome. You got like a million options on how to use it (perhaps that's why he calls it the multioption res ). Only con that I've got is the grey fasteners that comes with the res holders. The crylic tube and the Acetal gives it a really clean finish but the fasteners makes it look cheaper. But functionally it's the dog's bollocks :D

I've been lurking here for a while to learn as much as I could about watercooling, and all of you helped me quite a bit, thanks. I figured I'd share the results with you.

I originally installed this system in August, but I was never happy with it, so I never posted it. I didn't like the tubing hanging out the back, the pump placement was cramped, and the res and pump were not firmly mounted to the case. I didn't want to cut my case. Here's the original setup. The res is a Swiftech MCRES-MICRO sitting in the 5.25" area.

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/4218/watercooling031pb2.jpg

And the new setup. Got over my fear of cutting my case. One of my white CCFL's decided to die on me during all this, so thats missing in the pics, but will be replaced soon.

The original setup is 7/16" and the tubing passes through without any cutting, barely. The new is 1/2" and I used a dremel to widen the opening and stuck in a rubber grommet.

XFxGeforced, its a LL V1000B. Btw, nice job with the P180, yellow looks good with the LP board.

rjblanke,

Did you see an improvement in temps going from a MCRES to a Fillport T-Line? Or is it for convenience?

rjblanke
12-14-2006, 12:09 PM
IanY, I didn't see any temp differences between the two setups, but I'm not using what most here would call accurate temp measuring. The primary reason for it was I wanted to move my pump to where the res was, and the pump and res wouldn't fit there together without tight turns in the tubing. The T-Line kept the loop as simple and short as possible.

rjblanke

Muunsyr, coyotetu is right, but you can't see in that pic that I removed the plastic piece around that cable hole, widened it a bit with a dremel, and put in some black channel molding. I found that the original size of the hole wasn't large enough to easily route the 24pin through.

Sorry, I don't have any pics of the other side, as I had to borrow my gf's digital cam to take those pics in the first place. I used a couple cable clips on the backside of the drive cage and in the roof of the case to hide away as much as possible. Thats really about it.

I just wanted to post a short worklog of my setup here. Hope you guys like it. I had more trouble with wire management with the PSU at the bottom, so I eventually gave up and called it good. I also apologize for the slight darkness of some of the photos. I don't have very good lighting in my living room where I did alot of the assembly work. Anyway, here you are.

Here is the case. Lian Li G70 in silver, with a windowed side panel. They actually sent me the wrong one. I wanted the one with just a window and no holes but they sent the "official" G70 window panel instead. Ah well, it'll have to do. I don't want to pay the shipping to send it back.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1838/G70.jpg

Here are the holes for my rad. Believe it or not, I used a Dremel and touched things up with a file/sand paper. Almost perfect circles!

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/5993/blowholes.jpg

Here is the radiator install. It is designed to blow air out of the case, with the other fan holes acting as inlets. Had to drill out those annoying rivets first.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/676/radinstall.jpg

And here is the top installed.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/9100/topinstall.jpg

The guts.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/6793/waterblocks.jpg

Here is my initial loop design. Not too shabby. I love this case.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/4503/loopdesign.jpg

And now leak testing.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/5393/leaktesting.jpg

The finished product.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/3221/finished-light.jpg

And in the dark. Purdy. I was going to use G11, but then my engineer's logic kicked in and said, "This may or may not be bad for a loop, and you are only putting it in because it is pretty. That is dumb." And so distilled water and anti-algea stuff it was.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/6784/finshed-dark.jpg

Hope you liked it. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

12-17-2006, 05:20 PM
Shifty your system is very nice, but man take the time to hide thoe wires! The G70 is so much potential for cable management that you should make it your number one priority to clean it up:p:

badhabit
12-17-2006, 05:23 PM
Looks gorgeous, shifty. That case really is a beauty, one of the few I prefer in silver over black. I'd love to see pictures later, to see if the tubes don't cloud since you didn't put any real additives in the water.

shifty803
12-18-2006, 09:29 AM
Thanks. That dremel work was kinda scary, because I've never cut up a case before. The only way I can see to manage wires better with a bottom PSU is to cut holes in the mobo try, which I'd really rather avoid.

But anyway, I had a theory on the cloudy tube issue. I almost think that it may be that plastic material the pump impeller housings are made of grinding off in extremely small, almost microscopic bits and eventually giving the water a slightly cloudy appearance. That could be totally wrong, but it was a thought. The impeller spins really fast, and you only have water as the lubricant... sooo who knows? That all assumes you cleaned out your rad a ton though first.

Snatch
12-18-2006, 12:59 PM
Nice job shifty.
Suggestion: drill a hole in the mobo tray under the mobo(~1.5" diameter). Than put all the wires cables from the PSU in there. You could also bring all the wires that come from the case and SATA behind the mobo tray and than pull them out through the same hole. Molding around the hole.Link below.

For the holes on the top of your case there is this:http://www.crazypc.com/products/83010.html

Good Luck.

shifty803
12-19-2006, 08:49 AM
No it doesn't, because my rad is where the PSU would go. I wanted to leave the front bays open. Plus, if I ever get a *.3 rad, I will need the entire space anyway.

No it doesn't, because my rad is where the PSU would go. I wanted to leave the front bays open. Plus, if I ever get a *.3 rad, I will need the entire space anyway.

Nice job! Btw how do you take the top panel off of the case like that?

By drilling out 4 rivets (2 on each side), pretty simple actually.

cause the one on the left side carries a pump, and i´m going to buy a new pump
so I´ve already bought a new reservoir.
and filling the one with the pump is a hell, thats the reason I already installed it :)

Yeah, like the other dude said, you drill them out. I started with a small bit to get the shank part drilled out without enlarging the hole in the aluminum. Then I drill with a slightly larger bit into the head until just when I hit the aluminum and it should pop right off.

which reservoir is that? Repack?

are you having bleeding / bubble issues?

bullit
12-21-2006, 03:37 PM
1---yes it's the Repack as you can see better in those pics:

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/1422/dscn8596largeci7.jpg

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/8609/dscn8595largeko2.jpg

2---no i don't have any problems at all bleeding my loop because the pump it's next to the repack and it´s on a lower place(level).

3 about the bubbles yes ,at the beginning i have those problems but with the aquacompter controller for the Laing that problem is gone. That kind of problem usually appears on flat reservoirs without an internal deflector.

Note the clearance of 2" inside the case (on the left side). That's why I installed everything on top.

Here's the mod I'm going to make on my new rig. I'm having the top laser cut and piecing a 3" section in there. The top 120mm intake holes will be laser cut as well- just like in the first pic. I'm just waiting for my new BIX-II to arrive to make an exact template for the laser program. Everything will be inside the case for this build!

Thanks. There's a problem that I was hoping I could find help here though...you see, the placement of the radiator blocks about 1/3 of the intake to the PSU. I'm not sure if its due to this blockage or the proximity of the radiator to the PSU that's causing the PSU to heat up quite a bit under full load. When idling its fine though...Have thought of drilling a hole on the top and mounting the radiator there but that might rob the radiator of even more cool air.

My ram gets pretty hot casue it was vmodded so I left the whole thing there

and it looks cooler

another thing, I took out the back fans simply cause I dont need them, the fans on the rad suck the air out, my chipset never goes above 40c with the stock cooling .

Thanks for the comments guys, BTW Im gonna top mount a 2x120mm rad when I set up my machII :D

oh and no modding has been done to the case to get everything to fit although loads of zipties have been used to hold on the rad as you can see

Well, I haven't seen that at all really in the recent posts, but if you're talking about some of the older posts, yeah, I see that quite a bit.
not the old but the new ones, ..., though now it's good, seems I had some problems with my DSL connection...

Nice rig, but why not both videocard waterblock barbs pointing upwards?

That would help having shorter tubing quite a bit.

Love the Pentosin.

I originally had a northbridge block in my loop and was planning on going SLI, and with the 1/2" tubing there was just a lot of clutter there over the top of the graphics card, so I decided to route it around to the other side. I just never changed it. I didn't want to go through the hassle of undoing the clamps and leak testing that section all over again.

Do you think it's really hurting the temps that much? I'm using an Iwaki MD-20RZ and the water shoots through pretty fast.

Here are my temps. I consider you guys the pros in the business, so please let me know if there is anything I can do to drop them some more:

^ Well, if that's the case then I think it looks fine. I like the 180 bend there.

You seem to be missing a 3-1/2" bay cover. I'm anal retentive and that really troubled me even though you have a really beautiful rig lol :) I like that case and I have a couple of the same (but not in silver alu). Is it me or is dust rapidly forming at the base of your radiator up top? There I go, being anal again :) Looks to me that your money gets siphoned off by performance pcs as well lol :D

NickS
01-04-2007, 12:04 PM
Haha Ian I'm the same way. Everything has got to look perfect, and preferably symmetrical.

Xion X2
01-04-2007, 01:29 PM
No, actually I'm the same way and extremely anal about it, too. The 3.5" cover is missing because I stripped the back screwhole on my hard drive, so if I try and slide the drive all the way into the bay and mount it on that back screw it won't tighten down. But if I slide it forward I can use the other screwhole that lines up. So it sticks out a little and gets in the way of the 3.5" cover that was on the case. I'm sure there's probably an easy fix for that; it was only meant to be temporary, but it bothers me too. I don't like the way it looks.

As for the dust on the radiator, when I checked it there was a little dust up there but most of that is actually the glow of the fans that are sitting on it. The silver lightnings glow a bright white and shine through the holes in the rad. I've since cleaned off the radiator, anyway. A lot of that stuff doesn't show up until you get it under a camera flash.

sofarout...there is no res in his loop.

Kain, you should really invest in some hose clamps, and push your tubing fully onto that D5

So, Kain, You finally cleaned that Black stuff in your tubing ? Lo0L! Have you just cleaned the tubing or purchased some new ? Also have you cleaned your blocks and pump\Rad ? You should post the Old pics whit the Black stuff everywhere im sure some in here will like it a lot :p:

Ok, first.. the setup is like this:
Pump-3x120mm rad-2x120mm rad-CPU-VGA-T-Line and pump again.

Now, there is no need for clamps, I just use them in GPU and CPU blocks as well as radiators.. no mre.

Patriote, finally I cleaned all y stuff. Radiator, waterblocks, added new distilled water and all again. Now, its clean, and there is no Rad bullxxx in there.

The tubing is the same one. I just cleaned it with a brush (yes, inside them I cleaned) and they look like new.

The old pics where awfull (except I think for the ilumination... and so I decided to erase them time ago.

quick update on mine..

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b219/matt100_/DSC02613.jpg

added a large UV cathode (just one though, hate the purple light) and a fan to the front of the bottom rad so it now operates in push/pull and its much happier.

I think the gfx rad would almost be happy passive seeing as the gx2s run so cool.

Yes, it still works well.
Ambient temps are about 21ºC.
CPU idle 25ºC and no more than 30ºC at load.
GPU about 30 at idle and something between 33-34ºC at load.

Evn there is space for 5 fans (on rads) I only use 3 and just at 7v.
Whe pushing up those to 12v temps are better (I wonder what should happen if I put 5 fans... but I dont like noise).

I am actually planning on a move into a bigger case... Anybody have an idea where I can sell this one? I want to sell the Case, fans/controllers and the PA120.2 as a package. I can't imagine having a big audience for this on ebay, so any feedback would be appreciated!
