heres my setup
cathar white water cpu block
floppy bay res
radiator (http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=304217)
i was originally going to go with a hydor l30 but then i decided to get a chipset block so i switched to the swiftech mcp600 rev2 because of its power, but since ive dropped the very restrictive chipset block, should i go back to the hydor l30 which is half the price of the swiftech?

Yeah the Eheim 1250 is a good, solid choice for most setups. I have an MCP600 with a cascade and a DD 9700 GPU block and it keeps me at around 33c idle at 11*237, 1.9v.
I don't think the pump would do much worse if you took away the GPU block and left only the CPU block.
The Swiftech MCP600 also puts very little heat into the water which is something to think about too. Personally, i don't think it's worth getting rid of the MCP600 with that setup, I think the gain would only be around a couple of degrees at the most, probably not as much as you'd think. I tried an Eheim 1260 too and it made 1-2c difference, and that was without the GPU block, I added that later.
Just my opinion. :)

and of course £47.95 is over $80....
if you want to spend $40 then you want a danner mag3 (since you're in the US)

lol sorry, from your original post I thought you already had the MCP600 and you nwere thinking of changing it now you had got rid of a GPU block. My bad. :D
I'd get the Eheim 1250 or a Mag3, although the Mag3 is a bit of a heat builder, it's hella powerful and maintains a very good flow rate. Pretty cheap too. :)

I would really recommend this pump, while it may be a little more, its very durable and comes with an impressive warrenty.
I remember getting mine for 52, but forgot the site.
