Works nice on a 5800U (3-4fps MAX, usually about 0.5fps)
for ATi http://www.users.on.net/triforce/ruby/r300rubyrap.zip
for NV3x http://www.users.on.net/triforce/NV3xRuby.zip

How the heck do you run it? There is no executable...

Extract r300rubyrap.zip (with directories) to the "ATI Demos\DoubleCross" directory and you are done.

I'm downloading it now and I'll see how well it runs on a r9800pro 256M DDR2 card at 462/378.

EDIT: it runs kinda bad...crashing while its loading.

Yeah I know the directions. All it has is a dll file and there is no executable.

STEvil

the dll is so it will run with older vers of dx.

you still need to download the demo from the ati site.

well, I tried it agian after I slept and it worked. (Maybe I needed to restart the computer) It worked fine on my card, and only got a little bit slow for about 2 seconds at one part.

Peen
05-08-2004, 09:38 PM
nvm i did it wrong. but, really still doesnt work.... it takes FOREVER for the loading bar to get to the other side, then says "Warming Caches" and PC locks up

that stupid demo is probably buggy as hell, meh forget it. real games run flawlessly for me and most of us. im gonna soon delete that 130mb nonfunctional demo. gonna give it another try in 3 years when I get an x800xt

somethings wrong because someone in another forum ran it smooth on a 9600xt LOL

well i got it past the warming cache.... but it makes an error sound then all i see is distorted image like i overclocked my 9800 to 1ghz really fast. wtf  made me restart for the 4th time

well im only running in 4x mode cuz this board wont let me do 8x

Geforce4ti4200

maybe it only works with the latest cat drivers or maybe you need a special patch for NON x800 cards?

i have 4.4cats , i said that earlier

aoc007
05-08-2004, 10:54 PM
That demo was made for 3Dc so the texture memory used is about 4x 250mb since on x800 it uses 250mb with 4x 3Dc compression so I wouldnt bother trying to run it unless you have a X800. But if people say it works on other video cards then go ahead but I dont see much of a point.....

Peen
05-08-2004, 11:06 PM
well it sure dont work on my Radeon9800pro

aoc007
05-08-2004, 11:17 PM
If it doesnt work on a 9800XT then I doubt itll work on anything else other than a R420.

Peen
05-08-2004, 11:49 PM
the only thing i can think thats not letting it work is because its running 4x AGP? this ECS board doesnt let it run 8x

macci
05-09-2004, 12:14 AM
Guys, its a X800 tech demo - its not designed to run on a bloody GF4!

It will not run on any other card unless you do some 'special tricks' - there are wrappers for other cards (ATI and nVidia).
see berkut's post..

Peen
05-09-2004, 12:25 AM
macci thats what i used, didnt want to work

Geforce4ti4200
05-09-2004, 01:07 AM
people at another forum have had luck getting it to work on a 9800 pro, one guy got it to run on a 9600xt. I am gonna try my fx5200 and see if itll even work, I dont care if its a slideshow I just wanna see the graphics :(

Peen
05-09-2004, 01:09 AM
well i got it to work, cat 4.4's dont seem to work with it. I installed Cat 3.2's lol.

Anyways its a slideshow, maybe 3 FPS with it....

480core , 380mem

Peen
05-09-2004, 01:19 AM
I think the problem is my video memory. 128mb isnt enuf, and sometimes when there is nothing really going on in the demo it does over 30 fps easy, then it changes to another aspect and totally lags out.

Geforce4 , until someone here trys it on a 9600 I highly doubt it that it works flawlessly..

Cow2kie
05-09-2004, 02:34 AM
change ur vid mem to 256 in bios instead of 128.. that'll help it some (from another forum someone posted that)

i ran this on my system.. the main problem is memory .. system and vid it'll run smooth and then have to load.. run smoooth.. then have to load
but like macci said.. its a tech demo for x800xt.. not a tech demo for gf4

Peen
05-09-2004, 02:35 AM
mine is set to 256. how much ram u got? I got 512, but cant hear swapping at all

p0rl1n
05-09-2004, 09:02 AM
I have 1gig ram, 256 meg agp ap. and 9700pro (oc to 9800pro speeds, cat 4.3) and it runs smooth ~30fps average. if you want to see something really cool put the d3d9.dll wrapper in the x800 subsurface demo. colourless didn't write any special shaders for it (yet) so you get a few errors, but it still looks impressive.

Peen
05-09-2004, 09:06 AM
can u do me a huge favor and run with 512mb of ram?

p0rl1n
05-09-2004, 09:34 AM
peen, i just removed 512mb of ram and it ran horribly. the loading bar took forever, stayed at 90% for a while, and warming caches took longer too. my hdd activity light was going almost the whole time where as it only comes on 4-5 times with 1gig ram. and the demo was like a slide show with only a few parts of above 10fps. but it did run alot smoother the second time through.

Peen
05-09-2004, 09:42 AM
thanks man. thats probly my problem then

Did you guys install the .exe and then extract the zip to the DoubleCross dir? I'm pretty sure you have to use the .zip to make it compatible

here (http://www.akiba-pc.com/e107_images/articles/ruby/R10.jpg) is how that previous pic was meant to be rendered (some more pics in the same folder - ran on X800Pro and X800XT)

Peen

man this is choppy..

even if i run 320x200 with no AA and all High Performance it lags...

decently = how many fps ?

STEvil
05-10-2004, 01:28 PM
20+ aside from the jerky areas.

If I run 1024x768 with no AA enabled in the ini then I dont get the jerks, so its probably texture swapping thats causing it.

Change the res from the ini that is in the same folder as the exe, reborn.

Honestly though from the screenshots I have seen the Nvidia demo is better looking.

ok what in the f'ing hell is going on. it ran OK yesterday, with cat3.2s, tried again today it loads SLOOOOW as hell and just locks up at Warming Cache part, then blue screens with nothing on it. when i restart it says Radeon 9800 Pro was responsible for the error because it could not draw or something.

not only that but every game is lagging like crazy, tried uninstalling drivers with driver destroyers, cat removers... tried like every driver and its acting all gay now. i swear i have the worst luck ever  :stick:

agp aperture size lower than 256mb?

***Deimos***
05-12-2004, 01:09 PM
I believe he had aperature at 256mb.

My $0.02.
If those screenshots are the same frames:
R3x0 is missing the highlights and depth of field, and shadows probably too (Pretty much anything PS related).
5800 in berkut screenshot has the shading, highlights and depth of field, but the shading difffers from the "reference" posted by Macci. Again not sure if exactly the same frame. nVidia seems to be having a lot of trouble with shadows so it might be a driver bug.
Overall: very disappointed with how it looks on the R3x0. Anybody with better R3x0 screenshot (with shadows/highlights/depth field) for the same frame?

Well, installed the demo on my sig system with 4.5 Cats and extracted the rubyrar and it worked fine first try. Even with my system at 100% full load (Prime stress testing) it was a constant 24fps+.....very nice.

Stupid question, maybe i missed something, but is there a newer "patch" for it to get rid of the "dark" look of the shadows on her face and things?

I understand that I'm missing the depth of field, but I could have sworn I saw a thread on this and there was a newer version of the wrapper. Or.....is the one linked to on here the newest one?

05-17-2004, 12:29 PM
here is the newest one "ruby rap 2"
http://www.users.on.net/triforce/ruby/r300rubyrap2.zip

from the readme:
"All the problem shaders have been multipassed. All of them but one should produce the same output as the long
shaders used by the X800. The one that wont be the same is the one for the Cornea Reflections on Ruby's eyes.
Things will be a bit different for that one, but it shouldn't be hugely different."

Nice stuff, and thanks for that link. I really like how everything is fixed up with the second wrapper.....all the shadows and DOF are back in full glory. ;)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it does.....which is also where 3Dc comes in handy from what I've heard.....personally I wouldn't WANT to see it running on a 128MB card with less then 768MB (or 1GB) of system ram.

I'm 18, and out of school so no.....I bought all my stuff. Aside from what I've got in my sig right now I've put down over $8,000 (Canadian) into stuff for my comp over the last year and a half or so. I know there are others around here that have put much more then that into their comps.....but you've gotta admit that it aint bad for an 18 year old. ;)

Sad thing is that I've never had a second rig, it's all been consistent of rapidly buying parts for mine, and selling them to get/try something else. I think my record to this day would be when I had my 9600Pro.....for a whole 3 days, before I sold it to get my 9800Pro.

By spoiled I meant that I'm spoiled by having my comp.....to the extent that I can't stand using anything slower. ;)

K.....enough about me. :D

Thats weird that it wouldn't work on your X800 Pro since its made to work on it.... Are you using the wrapper for video cards other than the x800 series or just the demo from ati.com?

i am using the demo downloaded from ati, here's the message displaying the error:
// ==================================================
===
// ATI Sushi Error Log
// ==================================================
===
[AwFn.cpp] (line 803): D3DAw Error: AwInitWindow - Unable to create a D3D device
[Main.cpp] (line 720): AwInitWindow returned FALSE! Unable to create window! Quitting!

changing the setting in the sushi config I described in my post above made it work, I just set 4xAA+TAA, 16xAF in the CP and it looks grrrreat

Hmm maybe a driver or directx problem? Because its made for that video card I'd think it would work no matter what the settings are...

its a direct x prob i think, ati used dx9.0c when they showed the demo to everybody.

dx9.0c is not released officially, but you can find it in the latest sp for xp ;)

Running in a GF2 is a waste of time =(
In my GF6800NU it runs @ 2/3 FPS, but really lagged..... =(
