View Full Version : Is there a 5v rail mod?

My radeon is only getting 4.96v from my 5v rail. I want it to get more 5.2v maybe, so is there a similar 3.3v sense mod I can do to raise the 4.96v to 5.2v. (sorry if I'm using incorrect terms.)

have you done the 3.3v sense mod? if so check the 12v (yellow) and 5v (red) to see if there are small sense wires.. if there are the mod should be similar. if not you will have to open up the psu. i have no idea how to do it for your particular psu, but i have done it on my enermax 465 watt.

Hey it worked!

I have the sense wire for 5v line too! But... this didn't help my radeon overclock it made it worst. Artifacts everywhere in rthdribl when I did the mod and the voltage on the card 5v went from 4.96 load to 5.11v load. But it didn't help, it made things worst so I took off the 5v sense mod not back to normal running with zero artifacts. I thought the 9800 Pro would be hungry for some more 5v but I guess I was wrong. Thanks a lot for your suggestion, I didn't know I can do that.

This stupid 9800 Pro/R360 is just really sensitive to voltage, you have to find it's hotspot to get it to work without artifacts. I don't know if it is the same for the 9800 Pro/R350.

heh yeah, im tryin to find my hotspot.. i got a radeon 9800 pro with hynix, increasing my rails didnt help or hurt, so i decided just leave them up there u know ;D. anyways i can only get 411/378 stock, but when i up the vgpu to 1.85 i can only get 360 on the memory and 432 on gpu.. its really gay how it makes the ram go down, even if i do increase the vddr, i might have to do vref/vddq.. do you know if those might help?

You're pumping 1.91v into the card and getting 459mhz? That's pretty good if that's how much you're pumping in with zero artifacts in rthdribl. For 432 you should only use 1.8v. No need to pump 1.85v to get 432mhz artifact-free. I'm running mine at 1.8v or somewhere around there and I'm running 432mhz without any artifact in rthdribl, 3dmark01 and 03, etc.

As for my memory, I'm doing pretty good with 391 after the gigacube bios flash.

By the way, I just experimented again and increasing the 5v does help! This is what I did:

Increase gpu voltage to 1.9v then I kept on adding more 5v voltage until I reached 5.4-5.5v and I was able to run at 452 almost artifact free. If I would increase more 5v voltage I think I could've gotten it artifact free.

But I was too affraid to screw up my card or my computer components with too much voltage.

For some reason, the psu 5v mod added 5v voltage and 12v voltage! I was running at like 13v+ and 5.4-5.5v! So I took the mod off knowing that it will run better with more 5v and 12v voltage.

Right now my 5v and 12v (measure on the card) is 4.96v load and 12.11v load.

I hope that helps. Good luck.

that is on my old card, it was rma'd now i have this with hynix ram, it is a whole lot worse than my old card =/

Ohh, why did you rma it?

because i tightened the heatsink onto the gpu too hard when i put the washers and nuts on it, it just had the screws through sine it was a modded heatsink and i thought it wasnt contacting well which it wasnt. this card its fastened perfectly but the card just sucks.. my luck they send me a    :banana:ty card with hynix lol.
