Dont consider price.

I run a ATI 9800 Pro on my regular rig. All water cooled and overclocked. I like it.

I'd get the 9800pro, but considering what you'd pay for the 5950, I'd go for one of the Saphire 9800pro 256mb that they're selling at newegg. If they still have them.

He gave you guys two choices 9800 Pro 128MB or 5950 Ultra 256MB, stop improvising and let the man have his own choice.
I say if its between 9800 Pro and 5950 Ultra 256MB, I'd go with the 5950 Ultra.
Now let me explain my evil choice, while I own a 9800 Pro and 9800 XT which I like very much, I'm still mainly a linux man, and ATI is still stuck in the gutter when it comes to drivers, especially linux drivers.
At first I thought they hired the local mentally handicapped team to make their drivers for linux... then I found out that was the only team they had

The 5950 is probably worth more, that's the only thing. Otherwise id say 9800pro. Maybe grab the 5950 see if you can get a good price and if you cant, you were on the fense anyway. Obviously, if you meant money is no object, I wouldnt say you waste extra money and try and recoup it. I dont know how this choice presented itself so Im kind of acting like both are free.
edit: You got a 9800 pro though so... hmm... its hard to hypothesis what to get when there are no business details. Even though its understandable why you have not listed them.

9800 pro > 5950 ultra
5950 ultra = ridiculously overpriced

ok let me rephrase that.
Both cards are on the table and they are free, but you can only take one.
Make believe they are both worth the exact same $$$.
Think which will perform better.

I would go with the 9800 pro. It is proven to be the leading card in running eyecandy with today's games and has a much larger userbase then the 5950 series cards so much more information will be available for it when it comes to overclocking and mods. Oh, and because its good too support Canada ;)

I'D pick the 9800pro, i hate how long the 5950 is, i have to remove my videocard to take ou tmy hdd's cause of the tight squeeze, and i cant put 3 hdd's in the rack cause it wount fit. i'm talking about my ti4600, but the 5950 is the same length.

This is true, but I don't see why they are being compared.
The question should be 9800 Pro 128mb or 5900 128mb, as those two are directly competitive price wise...the 5950U is at least $100+ ahead of that.
Either that or the 9800XT 256mb vs 5950U 256mb or something.
Don't see why the starter of the thread said "don't consider price". These are not two cards from the same category...its like asking, Ti4200 or 9800 Pro?
I recommend the ATI though, I have had both and though they are equally powerful, the 9800 excels in high AA/AF situations.

I dont why but I still would stick with NVidia, always been a fanboy of theirs and I have never ever had a problem from one of their cards. So for that alone I am sticking with the "cheaters ;) "
For performance I would say the 9800pro or stretch to an XT.

Possibly because he is getting a deal on the 5950, or it is just cheaper, but he can only afford the 9800 pro when it comes to ati. Or someone is going to give him the cards or something. Doesn't really matter though

What if it was your grandma or somthing though, and she said "well I've got the 2 cards out on the table there, you're welcome to have one" Would you take both then? :p:

I would take the fx5950, sell it on eBay (or somewhere else :D ), and then get a Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB with XT layout and I'd have a Radeon 9800XT for a good price!:toast:

Either that or he's trying to settle a bet with someone. At any rate I like celemine's idea. You might have some money left over. But then considering that I have an XT and a 9800np then I might take the 5950 just to try it out. Beyond that I'd still take the 9800 pro

Well, well, well
here in Germany the Nvidia 5950 is worth about 350,-EUR (~424 USD) and the ATi Radeon 9800 Pro is only worth about 200,-EUR (~242 USD), thus my clear bet would be to get the Nvidia card regardless of how it performs. I'd get it as I already said just because it's worth much more and can be sold for much more. So you could even make some good money while getting a Radeon 9800 XT (as described above).;) :toast:
But if you already got both cards and you only want to know which one to take for benching (BTW, then I'd wonder why you asked in such a trange way :D ), then my vote would also got to the Radeon 9800 Pro.
