View Full Version : Question about K8NNXP and BH-5 @ tight timings

I've done a bunch of trolling and have gone through some of the issues with this board, BH-5 ram, and the FSB it will run at. I'm currently using the F12 bios, so i can't decrease the multi. I've heard you can use the bios from the 940 K8NNXP to do this though, is this true?

Anyway, the problem i'm having is running my BH-5 RAM @ 2-x-x-x with the FSB @ 200 or above. It simply won't do it stable. I've adjusted LTD, disabled CPU throttling, tried every timing with CAS at 2 possible but it just won't run stable. I get the same symptoms using two different sets of ram. One being 1gig of 3500 Mushkin lvl 2 and 512mb 3000 KHX 3000. The KHX is from charlie, off of these boards, and he assures me it ran @ 224 with voltage at 2.8. I really don't think it's either one of my pairs of ram. I'm using an Enermax 460 watt PSU, and voltages seem stable. WHAT AM I MISSING ?? I've been fiddling with this board for over two months and can't get it running like it's supposed to. I'd appreciate any insight, and thanx in advance.

CAS 2.5 will do the trick, some ram just won't run CAS 2 on A64 properly.

For example my single sided KHX3000 x512 (2x256) kit of BH-5 won't run CAS 2 if its life depended on it over 200 FSB. But it'll run 2.5 just fine.

On the other hand my good ol Corsair XMS 3200LL x512 (2x256) kit that's double sided runs CAS 2 without a problem.

I have the same board.. like schr0et said, some ram is different.. my corsair pc3500 has to be run at c2.5 while my mushkin blck lvl II pc3200 runs at cas2. In fact, it doesnt even want to run at 2.5.

Always have your memory voltage set to 2.8.. Other than that, you should be able to do 2-2-2-x all you want to a certain point (around 216-222fsb). Then you have to do some work to get it higher... Download clockgen to lower multi's. Lowering LDT and Multi will help you achieve a higher overclock.

Be warned, don't expect to get better perfomance while lowering LDT until you at least do the vdimm mod. Lowering LDT has a huge impact and needs a lot of fsb to compensate.. 2.8v ddr isn't enough in that case.

My mushkin won't run at 2.5 either, only 2.0. I don't understand why two completley different sticks of ram won't run well at 2.0. Is it just my bad luck?

Not bad luck... I just said I couldn't get my corsair to run a cas 2. Even so, my corsair at cas 2.5-2-2-5 has the same performance of my mushkin at cas 2-2-2-5.

If you still can't get higher than 200fsb then try each stick individually in all the different banks. Other than that the only other thing I can think of is maybe somehow your bios is corrupt.. Try relashing or possibly try an older bios.

Seems like single sided ram needs cas 2.5 and doublesided wants cas 2....

I have a Shuttle AN50R and my 2*256 KHX 3500 (BH5) won't post at cas2 over 200fsb either....but I tried my friend's KHX3200 512 stick and his won't post at cas 2.5! It needs cas2, and does 225 at 2-2-2-6 on my board.

This is annoying me as well because I just want my hyperx to work....
