View Full Version : Which system should i get ?
hello !
I need you advice about 2 systems ...
First One :
2.4C @ 275FSB - 3300MHZ
2X512 Mushkin pc3500 bl2 @ 5:4 , 220mhz@2-2-2-6 ( i hope ... )
asus p4p800 or abit ai 7 (need advice about the mobo also )
Second One:
2.8C @240FSB - 3360MHZ
2X512 Mushkin pc3500 bl2 @ 1:1 , i hope the ram will do 240@2-2-2-6, 3.2V
abit ai7 ( it provides upto 3.3V vdimm without modding ... )
what do u say ?
is it possible to get the mushkin at 240MHZ at 3.2-3.3V ?

Both great specs. I would say the first one. Although the clock speed isnt as high, the FSB is higher.

Is those some pre-tested rigs? Coze a 2.4C should do a bit higher then that if you have a good one....
And i whould go for the 2.4C rig theyre...

Number 2 "should" be able to take down number 1 IMO. 240 1:1 2/2/2/5 should be able to make up for the FSB difference.
The AI7 is very rough on ram.......
EDIT 2x512 2/2/2/5@3.2v is going to be a crap shoot.
first of all - thanks for the answerz ...
this are pre-tested rigs - u are right about that ...
the 2.4C is almost at his limit .... perhaps it can scratch 3.4GHZ ...
the 2.8C is able of going much higher - 3.6ghz ...
as for the ram - i have the mushkin so this is the only thing that is not changing - but it loves high voltages - that's why i thought of AI7 ...
now that i read on abit-forums that it don't like mushkin that much ... - i guess i will go with the P4P800
another question about this mobo - how hard is it to Vmod the Vdimm of this mobo ? (for an unexperienced guy ... )

#2 will be faster but why limit yourself to 3300mhz?
I would run a 3.2c 1:1...
o.k - let me organize the detailz -
what i currently have is a 2.8C, and the pair of mushkin
(i also got 9800pro and audigy 2 zs - but that's not intresting us ... )
now, i am looking for a mobo for this combo - and i couldn't decide between AI7 and P4P800 , Epox 4PDA2+ rev2 was also an option ...
now, a friend came with the idea of switching cpu's - he has the 2.4C - i will give him the 2.8, i will be able to run his cpu on 275fsb,set the ram divider to 5:4, run the mushkin (hopefuly) at 216mhz@2-3-2-5/6 , with default 2.85V ....
the AI7 is a good option for me - because it gives upto 3.3V vdimm, and we all agree the mushkin loves V ...
now, a problem appeared as i read the AI7 has some issues with mushkin - so i decided to go back to the P4P800 ...
right now - i am considering this options -
2.4C @275fsb, ram set to 5:4, no Vdimm mod
2.8C @230-240fsb (whatever the ram will do 1:1) ram set to 1:1, and of course Vdimm mod to the mobo ...
thanks for your help !
( take in mind i am very Noob to modding mobos and stuff - i will probably take the mobo to a friend of mine - he's an electronic engineer - he should know what to do .... - i hope ... )

If you have someone with some skills to mod, honestly I would have him mod your max3. Doing the vtt and vmem mods will put new life into your board. Trust me ;).
That should save you money on changing boards. Do that and figure out where to spend the extra money on.
The max3 is a dom good board when modded, I've had asus boards they are great but the vcore just drove me crazy.

The P4P800 Vmods are very very easy, my first Vmod was on it.....

They are very easy mods..... max3 to a p4p is not any upgrade in my book...... No offense to p4p owners.

P4P is 865 with no PAT...
You have to compare IC7 to P4C, not P4P.

I know the p4p is 865, he has a max3 already according to his sig. That's the only reason why I compared the 2. :toast:
Oh pardon me , doods !
max3 was already sold out ... - i thought of switching to the AMD side but AN7 drove me the hell away of any NFII rig for the next 20 years !

The only issue the AI7 had with Mushkin is that the default vdimm setting in the bios was too low and so the Mushkins wouldn't boot. This has probably been changed in later bios's, but all you'd have to do is use another stick and then change the voltage and everything is fine. The Muskin I have will do 250 fsb 1/1 at 3.2v in the AI7 I have.

Its that way with all BH-5 on all boards. 2.5v is just not enough to boot them at stock 200 2-2-2-5 (mine won't anyway).
So u r saying I should go for the GURU ?

The AI7 is a nice board. Fast and overclocks well. PAT appears to be enabled even though its an 865. The 3.2vdimm is nice and the volt mod is easy if you want more.
already bought it - thanks for the answers ... will post this week for my results ...
