I'm building a new PC for my friend and can't decide what CPU to get him. I was either gonna get him an XE like I have. But I have heard good things about the 3.4c. What would you say is better for o/cing and performance? I can get good speeds out of XEs but haven't tried northwoods.

the EE is faster than the 3.4C...

EE @ 3.6 = NW @ 4.1?

For the price, 3.4C is hard to beat on air cooling, since its such a good overclocker. The EE's aren't bad on air, but can't do the 4 GHz that the 3.4C seems to be able to do regularly.

But I'd bet he'd get better performance from an EE on Mach2 than a 3.4C on Mach2 (unless the 3.4 will go to 4600). The EE@4200 with a Mach2 will beat it.

Not by much though...;)

I'd say it depends a lot on his budget, if money is no problem then you're right go with the XE. But if money is a issue i'd go 3.4c and make sure I'd enough money to get a top shelf 9800XT and good RAM & hard drive.

Always seems to come down to the money.........

Both are pretty good choice, on air, a EE usally do 3.6-3.7, and a 3.4C 4.0-4.1. But if you have a Prommy on that the EE is way over....

I'd go for the 3.2XE myself.
