Hey, dunno if anyone really needs this, but I found I did!
Anyone ever had a chip that got hot, but couldn't find a decent heatsink that fit it perfectly? Got a heatsink already but wanted a better material?
These are problems that plagued me all the time. All these little chips got hot, but nothing fit them without being either ineffective, or getting in the way.
I went hunting and found a site that will custom-cut you peices of metal. All you need to do afterward is cut the fans into it!
What I did was order some thin plates, and a bunch of thinner strips and welded them on. Worked pretty good for a hand-done job!
https://www.onlinemetals.com/
Very accurate cutting! I ordered two 0.748x0.4724x0.125" sheets, and a 0.748x0.748x0.125" sheet and they got the measurements right on.
Shipping is painful: The metal was $1 for me, but shipping was $11. >.o Shipping is less painful in larger quantities, though.
I'm now ordering a bunch of really thin brass sheets to set onto the entire outside of my case and make it look like it's made of gold. It's gonna run around $140. >.o But who can say they have a PC case made of gold?! XD
Okay, maybe not.
But I am gonna see about having a waterblock made custom. Seeing as how I need a waterblock to fit my north, and oddly, south bridges, but my CPU is more than cool under stock cooling!
Besides, it's past time for me to mess with the fluids.
I also ordered some aluminum sheets that i'm going to weld onto various parts of the case, so I can have a truly unique fan system. I cut pretty much the entire front off my case, and i'm setting the 3" bays to the right with an open side for a load of fans. Dual Raptors, a 7k and a 5k drive all stacked together can create a lot of heat! And i've yet to see a passive or liquid cooling system for them that was really superior to fans.
Now to consider a 1TB drive for the server....

Whee!
Money + Computer stuff + me = total loss of willpower to resist unnecessary mods
