Out of the blue today on my P4C800-E rev1.02, the onboard Intel 1000Pro CT nic isn't working properly. I lost network connectivity for no reason and when I went to the hardware device manager, the driver has exclamation mark next to it and reinstalling driver has no affect. I'm using Win2k Pro SP4 with latest updates and the Intel INF 5.1.1.1002 driver.

Any ideas why this is happening ? For now I had to grab one of my Intel 1000Pro T server adaptors to plug into PCI slot until I figure out what's wrong with my onboard Gigabit nic on my P4C800-E

Any help is appreciated :)

i had that. it may seem stupid but check in the bios if it is enabled. with me it wasnt the case, the problem went away after reformating.

Have you tried manually reinstalling the drivers? Through device manager? Uninstall/reinstall? Usually works with these ASUS boards.

The auto install hardly ever works.

yeah tried uninstall/reinstall and same problem...

if i uninstall and reboot, without me doing anything, win2k pro reports lan driver being installed and then prompts me to reboot pc.

if i reboot the driver still has exclamation mark

i'm using 1011 bios which was reflashed by Asus after an RMA return of the board.

tlai might think i need to update to 1014 bios at least

seems to me you need a new bios:

this is the realease noted for bios P4CED14A.ZIP Version 1014

Do not use old version Afudos.exe to flash BIOS.Must use new Afudos.exe which is included in zip file to flash BIOS.
Using ASUSLiveUpdate to flash BIOS,you need to upgrade ASUSLiveupdate before flash BIOS.
Please do not use Ezflash for updating this BIOS.
Fix extended F8 Menu that cant show all devices,if you used more than one removables HDD, and cdrom and BEV(Bootstrap Entry Vector) devices.
Revise extended memory size(16K--->64K)
Revise Ultra DMA Mode max limit(ultra DMA mode 6--->5)
Mute beep sound for USB device plug-in/plug-out
Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpus...cpusupport.aspx
Fix the system hangs after clear CMOS
Fix LAN function fail under WinNT4.0

Did you recently update the Intel INFs from the older version?

not recently, the onboard nic was working fine for 4+ weeks until now

Have you tried the drivers from the ASUS download site for the NIC?

They're probably from about 1846 or something, but they might get it up and running.
