Hey there. With my AI7 do I even need the Speaker plugged in? Because I have a readout onboard.

Also - for some odd reason when I turned my PC on earlier, I got the death beep (when a fan fails or voltage exceeds 'set' limit) for like a split second then it corrected itself and dissapeared. I take it this is nothing? And perhaps just the CPU fan starting slowly or something?

I used to get the death beep when my vdimm voltage supposedly fluctuated over 3v, so I made the top limit 3.3v (currently 2.95ish) [ I only got this beep before, when a) cpu overheat, b) fan fail, c) voltage exceed limit]

example of what I call the 'death beep' well its more like a siren. beep, beep, beep, beep (and so on - its continuous). But with more siren like sounds. I dont experience any instability problems, just find it odd that it happens.

So basically I have no idea, as it doesn't last long enough for me to investigate.

Any thoughts on what it could be possibly?

on my IC7 I got the siren sounds a few times after the vdimm mod, would happen on boot for a second or three and then continue botting as normal. my fix was to unplug the case speaker.

ta thirdeye.

One more query.

For some reason, on this system, coming from around the CPU I believe, I can hear a very faint hissing noise it seems. It's also happened on my old GB K8nPRO and also my even older EPoX 8rda+ v2.1 board. And I've used 2 different power supplies thru this.

Vantec ION 400W
Antec TrueBlue 480W.

I have no idea why it makes this noise. I get no instability problems of any kind, just it emits a noise.

Im beginning to believe it could be something I do when building a system? Altho I have absolutely no idea what.

I thinks its those coils
u now ,the donut with a wire around itself

try putting your finger on the coil, it should stop

My system makes a high pitch frequency noise when initializing into 3D sometimes.......gets very annoying.

On the 5900 it only did it in 3DMark03 and it would vary with the FPS. When it was high, it was really fast but when they dropped to around 30 or so, it slowed down so you could hear it in the form of really fast beeps.

On the 9800 it sometimes does it while gaming but its a higher pitch sound, like when your ear rings...very annoying. Its obviously caused by my board.

Ive heard about "hissing or squealing" capacitors, never experienced it though, try touching each of the capacitors around the CPU when you hear the sound (and when they arent super hot!) to see if one of them is the culprit...

is it a cause for concern though?

also mine can vary sometimes, lately theyve been really quiet, but once on this mobo its been rather loud.

I am meant to touch the coil while my pc is on to cure the problem?

touching the capacitors or the copper coil when its on whill quiet the noise, if you touch the right one..shouldnt cause any problems, I've heard of several people say their mobo does this, I know a guy who has an nforce board that hisses, still has no problem kicking my P4's ass when we bench head to head.

edit-at least he says it hisses, I cant hear it with the pumps, fans etc going..

Mine is an electronic noise, its a high frequency. It doesn't matter how loud your fans are, you are still going to hear it.

My hissing seems to only occur when running Ultima Online - LOL. This has been the case on all three motherboards.

I guess it is just something that happens eh?

I take it, it isnt actually damaging the board?

Try running NFSU, mine does it then.

the noise is coming from the little gold looking coil directly to the left of the 4pin 12v connector.

However this is the -G board in the picture, I have the non -G board.

Hmm. I didn't get the death beep. But occasionally when playin Unreal Tournament on my old system, it beeps sometimes, then after a while, returns to windows with no errors. It also sometimes makes very high pitch noises. This is my AMD system (look at my sig for a while to see it).
