if u wanna know for sure if ur board can OC well get an asus P4P/C or abit Ic7. I've had bad experiences with MSI boards, but havnt had that board or ever heard of it :S ...looks ok tho.

If the only difference is the Prescott official support, GET AWAY OF IT. I had the normal one and the BIOS is the biggest :banana::banana::banana: socker in the world!

Bios works just fine, you just have to know how to use it...
Looks to me like the platinum is same as the other 865 neo2, I would pass on it in favor of an Abit or Asus board though, unless you have a compelling reason to buy it...

you're saying i dont know how to use a PC:mad:, and it was you that said me something like: MSI boards whould compare or even be some greater overclocking boards then ASUS or abit if they could do a better BIOS.
Its not word for word, but it was something like that!
EDIT: you also relate that coze they have alot of caps

umm i have a ic7, i just want one for a back up rig, i'm picking up a 2.4C and i want high FSB on it, and i know that NEo2 are capable of reaching 280+ on it, since there are lots of reviews on this, and my friend has had his @ 300mhz+ ... i guess there's only one way to find out

Skate, lol, don't be mad... Actually I've watched you tear into MSI Neo2 more then once without commenting, I remember when you first arrived here at XS, Everyone was telling you it was your MSI board causing poor clocks on your 2.8, well except me, I told you how wonderfull 2.8's were... Then somehow you killed your board? Then it was like you said the Board was Junk..
Well the MSI Boards are not junk... They actually CAN do pretty well, And IF MSI ever got a decent Bios team they could really fly!
Yes the Bios is lacking, Yes it needs work, But Biggest C@#k Socker? Sorry thats a bit over board... So is your recomendation to get away.
All the above has been my opinion on the MSI 865 neo since I answered your first post, it HAS NOT changed. The MSI 865/875 boards are decent, they need bios work, prices are getting pretty reasonable on them. They have some EXCELLENT Voltage options. If MSI ever (probably not) solves the bios limitations the board Probably will kick your Asus, and My Abit where it hurts...
Until then I'll keep on with my SAME recomendations for 865 chipset. IS7 because ease of full PAT enable, P4P800.. But the MSI can't be counted out, and IF situation warranted I would not hesitate to buy an MSI, They ARE good, Stable boards, with decent OC options....
bah! ...so ur gettin it?
get the Ai7 if ur after a cheap good board.

Yep, the MSI has no problems running 300+ out of the box, well the ones I've setup haven't..

I used the MSI Canterwood board(neo-fis2r?), the IC7 and the Asus P4C800dlx, and the MSI is hands down the best board...BUT...whats in my system? an Asus P4C800 DLX
If you want a great a board sure get an MSI, if you want a great board that has a bios that actually WORKS PROPERLY go with Abit/Asus
The MSI Bios completely ruined any chance this board ever had at succeeding, I Am talking ram timings sticking in some versions and not in others(forced 6-3-3-2.5 no matter what you pick), random "spd settings" odd cold boot issues etc, all bios related problems :/ I gave up after 1.6 maybe they fixed everything lately but I highly doubt it

MSI has pretty much gotten issues to the annoyance level, but alas the bios releases are getting few and far between now, the chipset is aging, next gen is on the horizon... So sad MSI could have built quite a following on this chipset...

But a problem w/ my MSI 865PE is a BIG voltage drop, and ive never found a mod for that mobo. And after 1.6V(Vcore) you have to set by a 0.1V increment. I hate that;).
I whould suggest you the P4P800 for a springdale mobo.

Well the 3 Different MSI 865's I had suffered no problem with voltages, and in reality was the most stable voltage of all the P4C boards I've used. Voltage problems can come from many places, and they all aren't the motherboard...
So now, we change from Bios issues to voltage? So what exactly killed your board, and why exactly do you call it junk?

I Set My V.core To 1.65 - 1.7
I LOVE THIS BOARD
BEST I EVER HAD
LOVE THE CORE CELL

I have a msi 865 mobo (older, red pcb) that I used to run at 304 fsb with a 2.4c. And I believe that was the cpu limited the mobo. Good board, like Karnivore said. Good voltage options. One problem that bothered me was the vcore. After 1.6, the next available setting was 1.7. Didn't have nearly as good mem bandwidth as p4p800 though.

Hi all,
Ok I've just stepped over the line and I’m curious about over clocking.
I have got a MSI 865 NEO2 Socket 478 Platnum and a Northwood 3.4c CPU I also have a 160gig Samsung IDE hard drive and 1gig of Kingston hyper x memory (2x512).
(I'm after a stable over clock of about 3.6 that I can use 24/7 and a better understanding of what we spend all our hard earned money on)
Can any one recommend someone or settings that can set me off in the right direction?
I have looked at vcore in the bios and tweaked the CPU a bit; nothing special :) got scared and put it back. It’s too late for me now I’m hooked.
I'm also considering water-cooling so I’m open to suggestions.
Regards
Gt
