My friend has this mini fridge, which i can get from him for dirt cheap. What can i do with it? It uses R12 refridgerant, and thats about all i know about it. Im figuring it cant be used as waterchiller, but id like to know what it takes to go direct-die.
here are the pics

I wouldn't expect any miracles from it. That is a very small compressor.

Basic waterchiller maybe.

At 140BTU, it would take about 2.5 hours to chill one gallon of water from room temp to near freezing. That's assuming no heat load.
140BTU = 41watts, so a heavier load is a losing battle and the temp would gradually rise.
The cap tube could be sized for a heavier load, but at a higher temperature. And a heavier load would require more condenser, or a condenser fan.
A small compressor indeed.

it was up for sale @ [H] for $50, but i decided not to bother because of the PITA shipping would be.

It'd probably make a decent northbridge cooler. I deffinitly wouldn't waste the money though.

The whole unit for $50? I was just intrested in the condensor but it probley isint much better than 20' of tubing...

is that a 1/8hp compressor? reason y i'm asking is i've also got a small fridge with a 1/8hp compressor and thinking of turning it into a simple direct die cooling system.
1/8hp = 93 watts?

Fuggers GPU cascade uses two 1/8 hp compressors for -104C

R507/R290 first and R1150/R508/R290 second. It works well on the gpu only...
