If you are going to spend the same on either, the A64 will be the way to go.

You'd have to really compare the 3000+ with a 3.0c -- I asked a similar question, but with overclocking involved. The thread had some good replies: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30371&highlight=a64%2A

I think thr A64 would be a hands down winner, but a lot of people really prefer the higher ones (3200 or 3400)

at stock a64, and the oced question is a catch22 question, the a64 will oc to 2.4ghz at least.

the prescott will oc to around 3.8ghz i guess and the a64 to 2.4ghz wich means the a64 wins clearly.

3.8ghz on a 2.8E? Thats a little ambitious. Remember the heat problem hasn't been sorted out. And most of the 2.8E's haven't overclocked well without extreme cooling.

I would vote A64 also. That heat issue with prescotts isn't scoring any points with me.

i see there is also the amd64 2800+ now...any experience with it yet?....how good its oc capability is....i thought so to go for amd64 as well....
2.8E at 3.8 is really hot... but phasechange will do the trick...
anyway thanx alot for the great replies...:)

well with phase change you will get 4ghz on the prescott, but the a64 will oc to around 2.6ghz ;)

either way tha a64 is the better choice, plus 478 prescotts dont support 64bit.

I thnk what he means is that the A64 socket is going to last longer than the intel socket is all. 939 has been pushed back and the current socket has had its life extend for atleast a year. THe 478 is about to disappear if i remember right.

A64 would be the winner. Besides the 3000+'s clock very high. On stock hsf you can get up 2.4~2.5ghz :) The A64 is a much better investment too but I would pay the extra $80 for a 3200+ for the extra 512kb cache!

I'm voting for the A64 3200+. It will do ~2450 on air, ~2600 on water and 2750 on PhCh

A64 3200+ it is worthy the extra money. If the 3000+ seems to be better imagine the 3200+.
