View Full Version : So, how hard is it to mount a Prommy on say a 9800 Pro?
I was looking at buying a Mk1 to cool a 9800 Pro, and was wondering how hard it is to mod the mounting bracket?

you could possibly build a independant water loop, cooling a 226 watt pelt on the 9800. you might get the same oc as using a mk1, for $100-$200 less. :2cents:

you can make a custom hold down with plexi glass and some creative thinking. make a horse shoe kinda shape. search around, theres pics.

I think you really need to replace the cooling head as it is just too big to fit most cards. No way it would fit a 95/9700 series card. I tried it. I thought about building a copper extension of the evap die but never did that.
A Baker block re-fit would be the best way to go imo.

No, its been done, i've seen screens of it here on xtreme. Forget who did it.
The biggest problem, if I recall, is that u cant get the card back on the mobo w/out removing the top PCI slot. It was suggested u can either dremel down the slot (too hack-ish for me) or simply unsolder the entire PCI slot. I like the latter solution.
When time/work/Real Life(TM) allow, I plan to do this. I just ordered an DFI LPB, so I'm not afraid to completely b0rk one of my nforce boards. Hopefully i'll find a digicam by then so I can take pics for ya peeps.

MrIcee did it.
I believe he used a single clamp for it.
You can do a search or ask him.
Good luck!!
