Possible with the limited bios features? Would it be a bad idea due to heat production? I'm not looking for much, just a little something :)

E-machines AMD64 3000+ @ 1.8GHz.

I'm sure you're aware of the specs on it and great price so i will spare you all that. But as far as performence goes this is by far the nicest notebook i have played with. Gaming on it is amazing, it's the perfect notebook for those looking for a desktop on the go. If battery life is of high concern this probably isn't the best option, but outside of that you will really like this notebook. i love the 15.4" screen this badboy comes with. It has built in wireless G, so staying online on the go is easy. my only real gripe on the notebook is the fact is comes from e-machines, meaning it comes with xp home, no xp disc (just a 3 disc restore) it comes with all kinds of useless software that is not only worthless, but outdated. I think the versions of aol instant messanger, winamp ect are older than 64bit technology, so that wasn't very cool. I did a fresh install of xp pro, using the drivers from the restore disc and it made me like the notebook 10x better. Overall a great mobile rig.

What would happen if you give your cpu less voltage? Would you gain battery life?

just use crystal cpu to change the multiplier, maybe its possible... what chipset is it based on? is its nf3 just use the nforce utility to raise the fsb, no idear what proggies there are for vias and sis' chipset adjustment.

i would try to lower the multi and raise the fsb so the clockspeed stays the same

Utilities don't seem to work, i had already tried that. I guess i am just asking a little much from a simple little notebook....hehe

I guess i was hoping for just a little OC for bragging rights since this is a built machine, which i'm not used to owning. I should be happy i found a utility that allows me to run it at 1.8GHz on AC power since it only wants to run at 800mhz @ idle. An overclock in a way since it's not how it was built right.....lol

What kind of 3dmark are you getting with that lappy? I bet it beats my desktop lol

Update:

Got it overclocked now, just a little oc to help me sleep at night :p:

Turned out that when i transfered all my .exe's over to this notebook clockgen was a different version, got the one for this board/chipset and was able to oc it. So i'm a happy camper now. I don't run this thing 24/7 so i'm not to worried about added heat, i also have it set atop a notebook cooler when it's at home anyways.

wow what does a notebook cooler look like?

looks like a tiny version of a termaltake heatpipe cooler.

they usually have 2 heatpipes on a copper base which sits on the cpu. the heatpipes go to the side and are stuck on a tiny copper heatsink.

heres a cheap one:

I can roll it at 2.0GHz 100% stable with the stock memory and everything, pretty happy with that. Didn't try to go any higher cause i'm not really willing to up voltages. I decided to do like a lot of other owners of this machine have been doing and do a memory upgrade as some games take more than the 512mb. I picked up a 512 corsair module and added it in with an existing 256 stick (which requires the whole thing be taken apart to access the second stick). So i've got 768mb now, definetly an improvement as far as gaming is concerened. I'll move to a gig probably in a few weeks when funds permit. This new memory won't do 2.0 however. Highest i can clock it is 1.970, no way i can change dividers, multiplier or anything as this is all done with clockgen. I think 256 extra mb of memory minus the 30mhz is a nice trade off. I'm extremly happy with this notebook's performence. There is tons of info to be found on it over at [H]. I didn't know this thing was sooooo popular. Not sure if anyone is following this thread, but i really do like talking to myself =)

im following ya, interesting news... all future a64s will support cool n quiet wich means adjusting the cpu speed and fsb and even the multis from windows. so all nf3 and k8 notebooks will probably support those options as well, wich means FINALLY ocable notebooks! :D
