Finally got my AX37 today! Now I can show y'all some P3 overclocking goodness. We'll hook up the good ole P3 ES in with some good ole air cooling (How do you even cook a P3?) and some evil multiplier adjustment. Good ole DDR will be providing for some excellent FSB oc'ing. Oh here's what the setup will be...

AOpen AX37
P3 866 ES
256mb Kingston HyperX PC3000 (BH5)
Hercules Radeon 8500 128mb

Lets see what I can rack up on this bat out of hell.

Results soon to follow!

Nice, hope you've got some voltage to feed that CPU ;)

I should have the rig set up tonight or tomorrow night. Got some loose ends to tie up with some friends *cough*girl*cough* tonight so expect some results late tomorrow or sunday morning.

Hope I get some time on the surf this weekend...

Ok I got the thing up and running now, gotta install win2k. We'll see what she's got soon enough. Booted up to 140x7.5 right away. Using my §§§§ty Kingmax pc2700 right now because I haven't powered off my main rig to pull out my hyperx yet. Give me some time and I'll show you some nice P3 stuff.

Oh ya, highest multiplier it gives me is 8x :( hopefully I'll be able to pull at least 166mhz out of the fsb.

sounds like the same multi restriction problem i had w/ your cpu in my cuv266...drop in that hyperX and tear it up!!

I think the multiplier restriction is due to the P3. Celerons are allowed up to over 10x but P3s were only allowed up to 8x (even though the highest Coppermine was released with a 7.5x). Luckily I've got plenty of fsb headroom.

How about one of those PIII-S chips that go up to 1.4 Ghz stock? I bet those would do close to 1.7 with no extremes.

Fastest Tualatin I can get is 1266. Problem is getting a mobo that supports them. Find me a motherboard with the Apollo Pro 266T and we'll be in business.

ive never seen a tualatin (FC-PGA2) socket 370 mobo w/ ddr. 1.4 p3-s cpu's cost a pretty penny, too.

We want some 5x200+ action! ;)

Kalway

lol I'd have to put my promise controller in there to do that! Not to mention some serious volt mods! What amazes me is how stable the voltage rails on the no name 250w psu I'm using are.

But what's the point of using the Apollo chipset? Just because you can't find good SDR RAM that would do like 166+ at low timings or..?

STEvil

because he has DDR that will go faster.

I have a couple SEITEC 6ns SDRAM sticks (3x256) but i've never had them past 155 with tight timings... ;)

Yup, STEvil hit it right on the head. Right now I'm having problems getting win2k installed. Some wierd problems with it copying the files needed to install. It'll get to like 46% and the screen will go red. Working on it at work now.

I need a list of benchmarks to download. Someone help me out here. I can't remember which ones to get to run. I got win2k installed and running now. Just need tests to run :D

Got superpi, pifast, sandra, and 3dmark 2k1

Installing 3dmark right now. Gotta get rivatuner on there... results soon to follow.

Way to show you pirated windows XP and a crappy movie :p:

Hehe, well this project is on hold until I get another stick of BH5. If you read my thread posted not long ago my stick of it died and I don't want to risk killing the other one right now. I have to run my main rig with 256mb right now... that's not cool.

PSU power, what's that?

Kalway
03-09-2004, 09:43 AM
I threw my crappy Kingmax stick in. Burning in at 7x145. I don't think I can get that stick to work at CL2 so I have to settle for 2.5 on it. Burning it in on sandra now.

Kalway

Gettin tough to get it over 1.1ghz. Got it to 152x7 pretty stable but it took like 1.95 volts. It isn't going over 36.5C so I geuss I don't have to worry about it dieing.

What's the max voltage I should feed a coppermine?

STEvil
03-09-2004, 04:34 PM
~2.2v was the limit (although I probably wouldnt run more than 2.05 24/7) IIRC.

faruquehabib
03-09-2004, 04:57 PM
yeah, i wouldnt go too long over 2 volts on a coppermine. post some results with the kingmax :D

Kalway
03-09-2004, 05:38 PM
I'll try and post some results tomorrow. I don't have network hooked up to it so I have to take digital pics of the screen. I need someone that can code a BIOS for it so I can change the RAM timings and stuff.

Right now I can tell you bandwidth is over 1.1gb/sec and the synthetic performance is around that of a 1.4ghz p4. We'll let the 3dmark score tell us more though. I've gotta get riva tuner on there tomorrow.

I have the same kingmax, on my kt333 it won't go cl2 over 167 :(
might be the board, I bought them second hand and the previous owner had way better results

faruquehabib
03-10-2004, 10:43 AM
yeah, i used to have 3x512 sticks of kingmax pc3200 with gold pcb and tsop chips...never ran better than cl2.5

my kingmax extrastick were *extremely* expensive when i got em, it kinda hurts that they suck... Ditto for my P2 233 MMX

STEvil

I had a friend with Kingmax PC2400 that did 175 2-2-2-5 on his 8KHA+ with 3.2v...

That was a couple years ago, though.

Too bad there's no vdimm on this board. I've got vcore up to 3.5 and fsb up to 248 but no vdimm control :(

I'll see if I can get the embedded techs over here to do a volt mod.

IvanAndreevich

Kalway
You got vcore up to 3.5? Is that standard

Kalway
03-10-2004, 03:17 PM
Well I just tried 2.1v and it was a no boot... I think the vreg probably freaks out when you set it above 2.05v I might needa update the BIOS but I seem to have a problem getting the floppy to work. I'll have to see what I can do with it.
