Been a while since I posted,
Thought I'd see if anyone is doin' good with the old "B" Chips!
Got a pretty good OC with my Sys, but hopefully that will All Change when I Hook it up to my new Vapochill Extreme Edition that I'm waiting for to arrive(YES,it was EXPENSIVE!).
Anyone care to advise me on whether I should buy a 3.06/533, or go COMPLETELY BANNANAS:banana: and buy a new IC7-Max3 and either a 3.0C,3.0E, or anything else?
Proud to be Back....:D

The IC7-MAX3 has some issues with dividers IIRC. The P4C800 is probably the best board right now if you do a simple vdimm and droop mod.

The 3.06B has a real good core, the very best of the old 'B' CPUs you can imagine. They are best on the old RDRAM boards because they max out around 152-156 fsb at 4x for 3.5-3.6 gig and humongous bandwidth (at the time). I have one on my P4T533-R gaming rig doing 154 fsb on air, or 3.54 gig. Doesn't need more than 1.55 VCORE. Same core in those legendary SL6RZ 2.40Cs would be doing 197 fsb! I don't think anybody was doing that back then at 1.55 volts, 3D benchable. Intel IS really testing these cores before they bin them. Mine has a pack date of mid-2003.
Of course the 3.0C -WUs will do 3.6 gig pretty easy on air. Not so for the 2.60-2.80Cs though.

With my 2.4B right now, I'm runnin' it at 179FSB/Ram at 224 with a 4:5 divider, and that's with the 18X on this chip.
If I go with the 3.06 and a vapochill, even with the IT7, it COULD get very Interesting, don,t you Think?

If you whant a High FSB chip, low divider take the 2.4C M0, you should do do AT LEAST 3.6(1200FSB) or higher(3.8-4.2GHz) w/ that VAPO EE.Most of the new 3.0C are doing 4GHz on air!
And talk me about the VAPO EE, its the first time I see that.

You will get much (waay) better benches with that Vapochill on a 3.0C, but you need to upgrade the motherboard. You could salvage your ram though.

I would get a good stepping 2.4b instead (D1 or later).
If you can make 200fsb, that's 1:1 at 3600mhz.
You will need an 865/875 board though to reach those high FSB's.

The VapoChill Extreme Edition Has R404 instaed of R134,so it gets COLDER than the Standard(SE),or the Premium(PE) Models.
It also has a revision 2 Chill Controller so you can adjust the settings In Windows without having to shut your system down, and an additional Fan for compressor cooling ,i.e., Colder Temps=Higher Compressor Temps.
If you look in the Xtreme System Reviews, Oppainter has an article that tells all!

How does it compare to a MachII?

I don't really know how the Vapo EE compares to a Prommy or other brands since this is the First one I am going to use, but since Oppainter gave it Excellent Reviews in his article, I Just HAD to Have It!
Besides Cooling Good, The Black Case is Awesome!

BTW,
Did anyone buy that .09(Prescott core) 2.4A/533/1Mb Cache from NEWEGG?
Would like to know more about that ......maybe a good candidate for the Vapochill.

Just to add my 2.4b results to the thread...
SL6DV (C1)
Max stable OC is 195MHz fsb 3.53GHz on my BH7 (1:1). This seems to be the chip's ceiling, because no matter how much voltage I throw at it, it wont go any higher. I guess it could be the board, but I have no way of testing that.
Been running at 175MHz (3.15GHz) 4:5 for months, and has kept my sickness at bay throughout the 2.4C craze...which was VERY tempting :D

That's an excellent overclock for a C1 core Gogeta. I had a couple of 3.06's (both C1's) and neither would get to that speed (although the second one did get to 3.45GHz).

I have a 2.4B SL6RZ too :p Mine only did 3.1 but at 1.575v... I tried in a mates rigg and his 2.4C stops at 3.1 too and that att stock volts? I think it's a bad MB but I'm only using AMD atm so I'm not really in to "the way of P4" yet ;)
My tip would be a 3.0C and a P4C800 or P4P800. The Max-3 seems to have alot of small issues making it a pain in the ass!
