hey i just was wondering this..
i have a volcano 11. so i wanna have the volcano 12... but i can just buy the fan and install it to my v11 heatsink...
so i heard a lot of good temps with v12. is this the fan that makes the different(5500rpm) ??? . or it is the heatsink involve too?...
thanks
clear me that please.. i can save money

the heatsinks themselves are different. the V11 has 40 fins and the V12 has 66 fins.
i'd say, save your money and pick up a ThermalRight SLK948 or SP97. but that's just me.

well, the fan might help if it pushes more air. i was just pointing out that the heatsinks themselves are actually different.
strange that you got better temps with the V11 than the SLK947. you wouldn't happen to have a SLK947 that you aren't using, would you? :D

it looks like the SLK947 is better, but it all really depends on the price.
to me, the choice is pretty clear. the SLK is only $1 more at newegg. then again, it comes with a Delta 110CFM fan which is noisy to say the least. you'd probably have to 7v the fan or buy a fan controller.
by the way, your link doesn't work. :p

i dunno what the controller is rated for. if the fan draws more current than the controller can handle, it could possably fry the controller.

that SP97 seems like a pretty nice HSF. it's spendy too. if you buy one, make sure you pick one up for me too. ;)

I had volcano 11 for 3 months on a barton 2500+ @ 3200+ (11x200) and it:
a) was LOUD!!! I meen you could hear it in the other room
b) had strange temps...my cpu would get as high as 57 celsius (full load)?!
Now I have a ThermaRight SP97 with a PAPST 92mm 3412 n/2gl fan (it puts 61 CFM at 1950RPM and 23dB) and my temp was never over 48 celsius.
As for he Volcano 12 it has a beter heatsink (volcano 11's was really low quality) and the fan is a bit better but even louder then the volcan11's. (This last sentence is from a review I read in a local computer mag)
I'm not saying Volcano 11 (or 12) is crap, they are pretty good if you can stand the noise...but their heatsinks just can't run with the quality of ThermalRight
Sorry if my spelling is wrong i'm from a non english speaking county.
