Sorry to start a new thread for this but I really need to know. I was wondering how you tell if the directx is 8.1b. I had a file of 8.1 on a disk and installed it for benching cause i just got a 9800 pro, but im wondering how i can find out if it is a or b?

I believe Microsoft will only allow downloads of the "latest" revisions of a particular DirectX version. In other words, if they put 8.1b on their website then it will say 8.1 in dxdiag. It takes the place of the older versions that were there previously. I could be wrong about this though.
