Before I get started, I just wanted to let everyone know that this is a noob question. Not sure if this is the right place for the question either. Sorry if it isn't.

Memory and overclocking..... I understand that there is a tradeoff between high FSB speeds and memory timings. Obviously the goal is to get the highest FSB speeds possible while maintaining the most aggressive timings on the RAM. My question is this... what is the difference between BH-5 and BH-6 memory chips and how do they differ when overclocking?

Also, I have 512Mb of Corsair PC3200LL TwinX in my machine right now. I run my FSB at 210Mhz until I am ready to benchmark and then I push it up. My timings are 6-2-2-2 on the A7N8X (version 1.04, wish I had a 2.0) What settings should I lower first when maxing out my FSB? I usually drop my CAS Latency to 2.5 first to find stability but I'm not really sure if that is the best step. I have never been able to push my FSB higher than 216Mhz, but this could be from my mobo revision problems. I have upgraded the BIOS though and my AthlonXP 2700+ runs smoothly at 210x11. Any suggestions?

BH-5 and BH-6 allow tight timings at high fsb. The only thing it requires is a lot of vdimm.

How can I tell if I have BH-5 or BH-6 chips?

look on the chips of the ram. if you have heatspreaders, you have to pry them off. the chips will say bh-5 or bh-6 on them

Is it worth prying off the heatspreaders just to see if they are? I read elsewhere here on the boards that the heatspreaders actually cause more issues with heat than without. Is this true?

yeah, they don't do a whole lot other than make it look pretty. if you wanna cool the ram, then just aim a fan on it
