I am looking at purchasing a P4 2.8 ghz (533FSB) or P4 3Ghz HT (533 FSB) as I have already bought the Motherboard.
1.The P4 3.0 ghz has hyperthreading where the 2.8ghz has not. Will it make a big difference in gaming having the HT?
2.Which would be a better CPU to overclock?
Thanks

No, HT does not help for games, or at least current ones. And AFAIK the 2.8 overclocks better, but neither are really known as top overclockers. My advice is to get a 2.4C as it will OC better and be faster than both. Plus it has HT.

What motherboard do you have? As Slick said the best thing to do is get a 2.4c or higher.

get the 2.8C version, and not "B". 2.8C has hyperthreading enabled and 800fsb. Probably cost the same as a 2.8B.

He said he already bought the board.

sorry didn't catch that, thx Soulburner.
My 2.8B is doing pretty well, however i think 3.06ghz and HT will boost performance considerably in multi-tasking applications. In the long term, I think you will benefit from 3.06ghz chip more. It's probably cheap now since prescott is out.

This indicates he needs a 533mhz CPU.
I recommend getting a good 2.4b and running it at 3.06 at least. 170x18 1:1 2-2-2-6 would be good and save some money.
Kingston ValueRam 2700 can do that.
