I finnaly got a job and with it I will be buying a computer in the range of 1700-1800 dollars (TOPS). It's not much, but it'll have to do. Any suggestions on hardware is appreciated, but i'm pretty limited to only a few swedish online-stores. My goal is 3.5-3.6GHz stable for gaming on aircooling.
The components i've been looking at are the following. (May change as i start ordering in about two months). Keep in mind hardware is much more expensive in sweden then in the states, and this rig with current prices cost 1700-1800 dollars if i buy the parts where they're as cheapest.
Chieftec Dragon Big Tower
400W Papst
ASUS P4C800-E
INTEL P4 3.0GHz 800MHz 512KB Socket 478
512MB PC433 DDR Kingston PC3500 CL2 Hyper X (2x256)
WD Raptor 36.7GB 10000RPM S-ATA
WD Raptor 36.7GB 10000RPM S-ATA
Sapphire Radeon 9800SE 128MB
IDE DVD±RW Lite-On 8x
Thermalright SP-94
92mm Vantec Tornado
Zalman Heatpipe Hardisk Cooler
Zalman Heatpipe Hardisk Cooler
Vantec Nexus NXP-305
Anyhting i should add or remove/replace. This looks to me like a solid and good rig. I'm mostly gaming and overclocking for fun just for kicks to see how far it goes :) And i really want to run it at 3.5GHz++ so suggestions are welcome! I want the system to fly ;)
/Thanks

Drop the 9800se, it sucks unless you can enable the extra pipelines. Get a 9800pro for $215 at newegg.

If you read my thread i said i only had a few swedish online-stores to buy from, and with the prices being so high here on the 9800pro i can't afford it without sacrificing something else. It cost almost twice as much.

Looks good, but I have to agree with Techmasta. 9800PRO has dropped in price, would be a better choice.
Other changes i would make :
2*256MB PC3000 / 3200 Kingston HyperX (might be lucky and have BH5 chips on them).
Why 2 Raptors and only 73Gigs of space? I'd get a 160GB SATA drive for way less money than 2 Raptors. With the difference in price, you can buy the 9800PRO.

Yesch, if i dropped the raptors i'd get my 9800pro.. :slobber: hehehe!
BUT, that means i wouldnt enjoy the raid setup with dual raptors, and i hear they're amazing when matched together. So, how much will i loose by using a normal hdd over 2x raptor? will i feel the difference? :stick:

You might feel the difference. The raptors are the fastest drives around, certainly in Raid0. But is it worth the couple of seconds you gain when loading a game? ;)
Remember that if one of the drives fails, all your data is lost.

Why not get A64 3000+ it would be much faster and about same price

7200 Drives just don't get fast.
they are ok, but theres just something weird about installing windows Xp in 5 minutes with Raptors and Raid Zero, then IDE drives and raid at 13 minutes.
at that point, the CD drives just arent fast enough for the raptors :)
on a side note.
drop the 3.0C
get a 2.8C.
go for 14x250 with 5:4 ratio and it's super easy to get 3.5 ghz.
it's just about as easy as going for 234 at 1:1 on the 3.0C.
it's abit of a trade off I guess, but it's a much easier OC.

If your a gamer you don't want the 9800se unless you buy a used one that is guaranteed to softmod. A better video card is more important than fast hd's.

You could also drop those heatpip coolers if you went with sata

I whould say drop a raptor(and a cooler for sure;)) and if you have enough space w/ that take a 9800PRO instead.
kunnak: its not garantee that a 2.8C can do 250, mine only did 3.2 and karnivore ad one that only did 2.9. So I hardly recommend the 3.0C

K8N Pro
3000+
74GB Raptor (the 7x gig one...brainfart in process)
ditch the HD coolers...
9800Pro...if its too much...check out the services section...someone will buy u one from newegg and ship to u no additional cost other than shipping and product cost.
thermalright HSF..
Khx3200 2x256 BH-5 u can find it for around the price of that 3500....

definitely get 9800 pro instead of SE. Most reviews show that it is even slower then a radeon 9600 pro
