ive noticed, that when i have cpu-z open, and sandra open, if i close sandra, my cpu-z reading goes up by about 1-2fsb/10-22mhz overall, for about a second or two.

my cpu was set at 138x11 = 1518mhz.

thats with cpu-z open, when i open up sandra, it drops to 1516mhz.

when i close sandra, ive gotten a jump as big as to 1543mhz.

now, im wondering, for just a cpu-z stable overclock, can i really claim that 1543mhz as my max OC, or just the 1518mhz that it will boot at?

before sandra: 1518mhz (http://members.lycos.co.uk/pikardv1/hpbimg/cpuz1518.PNG)

with sandra opened: 1516mhz (http://members.lycos.co.uk/pikardv1/hpbimg/cpuz1516.PNG), but... sandra reads as 1518mhz, very odd...

split seconds jump after: 1543mhz (http://members.lycos.co.uk/pikardv1/hpbimg/cpuz1543.PNG)

all this at less then 43C* on a t-bird 1200 :D

hot chip my arse...

and no, this isnt at all stable... just stable enough to muck around in windows for a bit, not running any stress tests/benchmarks. ;)

*unless ofcourse my motherboard sensor detects temps a bit lower then they really are... which is ofcourse possible...

p.s. my goal was 1.6ghz for this chip... doesnt looks like thats gonna happen... :( all this /\ is on max voltage (set at 1.85v, overvolts to 1.93v) so i have no room for more voltage... :(

no, i think the 43C is cool for max OC idle temps. ;)

100C? boiling temps... :P cook some eggs on that chip. ;)

with h20 you should be able to run 2v+ and get it to 1.6 easily

mobo goes up to 1.85v max. :(

and if i was gonna go out and spend that much money (h2o + mobo + ram), i might as well just go and build a new rig. and i have only about $300 in my pocket right now, so thats out of the question as of now. ;)

but, what does everyone think...

can i coult that 1543mhz as my top OC, just because it jumped there for a second, or just the 1518mhz, becaust thats what it booted at?

it has to do with how the proggies read the clockspeed, the clockspeed doesnt really go up if you ask me, it just looks like it.

you dont need a new mobo for 2v+ just mod yours, and watercooling isnt that expensive . d-tek block 25$ pump 25$ rad 25$ hoses etc 25$

yea... but thats $100 less towards a better system. ;)

eventually, i want to get one of the better clocking bartons, or even a a64 if i can get that much money togeather before summer. :P

i mean... no matter what i do with what i have now... im not breaking any records...

you wont break any records with your new system either unless you get a dual opteron 2.4ghz system and a r420 or nv40 with a dual cascade to keep both cpus at -100°C under load and a prommie for the gpu... ;)

i think your right though, you should rather get a new cpu and maybe a new cheap nf2 board as well. shuttle ultra400 nf2 is only ~50$ or so and when you mod it its a really nice board.
