but i ran into a problem look at the pic it speaks for itself
the lower score had an OCed vid card and proc the higher score has lower speeds:(

you've inspired me... ill lift my score up above 9,000.. possibly tonight, the way the temperatures are going today. (coolest day here in 2 weeks, which is 30 degrees celcius) good going jmg :) i like ur new hardware ;)

yes 8.1 comes with xp... Heres my order of installations on a freshly formatted drive - first thing i do is install sp1, then the nforce2 3.13's, then the det 44.03's, then blaster worm patch, then get online and get all windows critical updates... then install asus pc probe and rivatuner.. then 3dmark2001se, then i bench ^_^ seem like a good order to u guys?

Seems fine. Windows 2k also an option of course.
Nice score jmg823 !
I think we have a cold night on Friday, one of the last in the UK this year maybe, so I will try again with the MX440, I just think I meed another 10Mhz on the core clock to get up 3 places. My new AMD64 seems slightly better so will see what's what.

u can do it zakelwe :) get in top 3 for mx 440! tell me what system ull be using for the bench? and if ur gonna be using water cooling or air? good luck! your the person who inspired me to get my 8539 points with my mx 440 :) i plan on hitting 9k real soon... thanks for all the questions of mine uve answered in pm's.. :)
kommando, you can chuck my mx 440 in ur pc if we ever lan, and have some fun with it... just dont break it :D

I wonder if my gpu block will fit on it :P

well something that is stopping my progress is that my mx440 is not a golden sample and it reached its non-voltmodded limits at 342/545

There's a fair chance i might be in for some liquid MX440-action later this week! Watch out :)

It'll be air as i epoxied the globalwin CAK copper hs and delta fan onto it :) runs 400/740. I voltmodded it and it still runs 400/740  which is due to my incompetence at soldering.
The cpu is faster this time by about 50MHz so it should be slightly better. Not putting chilled water on it yet till it maxes out on very cold air.
No problem about answering questions and stuff, lots of people here have answered my questions as well; thanks for the kind words. Progressing and having fun that's the main thing. There is nothing worse than benching all night and actually going down in scores LOL ....
-2C here on Friday .. oh yes :D 12 pack of beer and -2C ..maybe I'll get a pizza in as well, what could be finer ?
Good luck with 9k

You don't need any of that stuff, that will all start lowering your score.
I lose a couple hundred points doing all that.
Here's mine. Install XP, go into other partition and defrag it. Go back to new install and install chipset software and video driver, reboot, go back into other OS and defrag again.
That's all I have. Chipset driver for AGP and video driver.

zakelwe, good luck going for the top spot and I hope you can break the 12k barrier. Please keep us updated.
I have now water cooled my MX440 and have done the GPU volt-mod. I could not figure out how to do the Memory volt-mod for this particular video card. Do you know how? I am now running it at 405/675. My 3dmark01 score improved by about 200 points to 11,114. Unfortunately, my CPU (2.4C @ 3.6) is holding me back from going much higher. Anyone got a P4 that will do 3.8 on water cooling they want to sell? PM me.

i cant get any more of a boost from my vid card but my proc and mem subsystem has some ponteintal yet

11k is still very impressive on an mx440! Id need your clocks to break even 10k to 10.5k

I;ve just had a look at my past scores and the old ones are 400/685 whereas the 11.8K one was 400/740 and so the memory mod must have worked, the gpu one failed.
Looking at the card there is an intersil 6529CB SOIC chip on it and I have soldered to pins 6 and 9. Looking at the datasheet
http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/fn9070.pdf
I have done the two Feedback pins but from memory the memory one is pin 6 or FB2 and looking at the spec sheet again that is 2.5v vout so that would be too much for gpu core I guess and Ok for memory .. so indeed pin 6.

zakelwe, that makes sense. I used pin 9 (FB1) to ground for the GPU mod. I simply did not realize that the 6529CB chip controlled both the GPU voltage and the memory voltage. I know that my GPU mod worked, because I was able to increase the voltage from 1.66 to 1.75 volts (as measured on the capacitor). I guess I now need to do the memory mod, and see how high I can push it.
Again, good luck and keep us updated.

Hi Edward,
Yes, I though 9 must do gpu as it is 1.5v nominal but when the gpu mod failed I thought it might be from another componente ( though nothing obvious stood out). Now you have pointed out it is pin 9 I will have another look at that also, maybe it is a poor connection somewhere ?
Good luck also ! Nice GF4 ti score by the way, 19K + is very nice.

This is intresting...overclocking MX440's, just what the doctor had ordered.
I have a MX420 that Ive modded a little :p: I put a new heatsink and fan on there and also some quite large ram sinks.
But I need a vmod on the gpu and memory, so can anyone help me out ;) Its a half sized card if you know waht I mean and I think its a Micro-star card, from my dads rig.
By looking at it theres only chips on the back side of the card and commonly the voltage regulators are on the back side of the chips anyway.
Theres four chips on the back side of the card:
4800 AA1U12 (8 pins)
3037A CS212 (8 pins)
ACT08 XAC149 (14 pins)
23CT 6 6K LVC14A (14 pins)
Im thinkin that the chip listed at the bottom is probably the regulator for both the mem and gpu but Im not too sure.
Thanks

any info of how to spueeze more points from my vid card w/out doing a vmod?
Edward2
02-18-2004, 01:36 PM
If you don't want to vmod the card, your only choice is really to increase your CPU speed, FSB speed, Memory speed, and Memory timings....... assuming that you have already optimized your OS and video card settings. If you have not done these 2 items, you should really do them.
Such as -- Turn AA and AF to OFF, set everything to Max Performance (not Quality), etc. Shutdown all unnecessary programs and services running in the background, such as anti-virus software, MBM5, internet security/firewall software, etc.
I see you are running 11*200 FSB. Can you run 10*220 FSB? Can you tighten your memory timings any? Can you increase your CPU overclock to 11.5*200, or 11*210?
