Hey can anyone help make a decision to upgrade my bid card to a Radeon 9600 XT or keep my Pro. WHats the difference between the two?

The few differences are described here:

Imo updating from pro to xt is useless. In generell the xt is slightly better for overclocking but it isnt worth an update.

basically the 9600 xt core is just the 9600 pro core with more voltage, so it comes clocked at 500mhz... however i think getting a gexcube 2.5ns extreme edition 9600 xt would be worthwhile. $269 at gamedude bro ;)

They're getting that cheap at most "good" vendors in AUS.
Speaking of GameDude, what's their service like?? Have you guys bought much from them??
Kinda curious cos when I look them up through http://www.ausprices.com they don't have a good rep from the looks of things.
I got a GeCube 9600XT eXtreme edition & it's okay...got to something like 540/800 w/out artifacts with mine. That's after the first one started artifacting at stock speeds & freezing my rig (well my bro's that I was building).
Card didn't get hot (compared to my 9800XT at stock) at all.
The memory on the back of the card got a bit warm but that was it.
I like the V2 GeCube 9600XT & eXtreme's 9800XT hsf look-a-like cooler. Pity it's made from aluminium though. I was thinking they got spares of the 9800XT coolers & slapped them on.
That would've made it near enough to normal WC to OC.
Keep your 9600pro kommando, at least for a few more weeks. Yeah, a lot of ppl are getting high OC's from their 9600XT but there's a few that don't OC too good in the core department...
Just my :2cents:

Yeah, i bought my corsair xms ram, vantec iceberq and my 550w codegen psu from gamedude... i went out there to get all of it. The guy who served me wasnt very nice, but no complaints :D They have some really good prices... The 5 places i look at for hardware are gamedude, the disc shop, computer alliance, mct and below zero...

Sorry bout the OT
Thanks for the feedback m8.
Just bought an Enermax 460w from them but gotta get it posted to Melbourne & wasn't sure if they were legit if ya know what I mean.
Seems like most vendors think you're some sort of "mad OCer" or aren't good enough but hesitantly do business with you. Especially the ones with cheaper stuff:rolleyes: .
kommando,
what are your highest stable OC with your 9600pro??Gotta weigh up the scenario here... What if the card you get doesn't OC as good as your 9600pro?? Then again, if you can get a decent enough price for your 9600pro & your 9600XT OC's similar then would it be worthwhile??
Cheers,
Minnyboy

OT = Off Topic
kommando, if you can get rid of your current 9600pro at not much of a loss then I'd go for it.
Maybe save a bit for say a 9800pro?? Or that's not in the question & 9600XT is the only option??
Cheers,

I'm prob gonna join the AMD64 club soon too. This P4 I've got just ain't playing my game.
B4 I jump over I've got one last thing to do with my current setup. I need to break 24K, my P4 has lost it's balls so I gotta get off my lazy a$$ & mount my Vapo on my 9800pro in order ot jump to the AMD64 setup.
Once that goal is done I'll be selling it & moving house. Damn that Prescott had let me down, REAL BAD!!
These AMD64's dying on ya bcos of voltage related problems is a bit of a worry though.
kommando, why not get AMD64 setup first & GPU upgrade a bit later??
imho, I don't think it'll be worth upgrading till at least another month or so. The AMD64 upgrade seems the better choice atm though, although if the rig you got now is doing the job why not keep it till these new sockets come out??
Any which way you go, Good Luck..
Cheers,
Minh

ill be getting around $600 AU dollars for my birthday (in may) from the family, and with it i plan on getting a 9800 xt.. (ill have my own $200 saved) after that, another stick of xms3200ll... then mid year 2005 ill get the socket 939 with the fx-53. thats my future plans, only time will tell whether they stick or not :D

I'll probably be selling off my second rig (another P4 2.6, Max3, 9800XT etc) to get ready for either the LGA775 or socket 939's.
Never had an AMD rig B4, only got into this PC thingy in the last 18-24 months....Been with Intel so far which has served me well....Until Now, that is..
Reason I'm selling my 9800XT & not 9800pro is that my 9800pro clocks as high as my 9800XT without mods:mad: . Both do 450/770 (iirc) w/out mods....
Cheers & see ya when we get there...:toast:

I don't think the upgrade to xt is worth it. Just gotta get some nice ram then BENCH TO HELL!!
Then in winter get some fishhiiess, then from end of winter till early next year save for a64.

Is that hynix ram ?
I'm gonna upgrade from a pro, and i'm looking for the best ram, since thats the bottleneck in theese cards.
Anything for higher marks

RV350 = 1.28 VGPU
RV360 = 1.28 VGPU
difference is a tweaked core to remove hot(er) spots, plus low-k maufacturing process.
they will do 600 core on stock cooling, IN THE RIGHT HANDS (XS users)
with pelt + 1.5VGPU, you're looking @ ~750gpu
i'd love to see one under a cascade :banana4:

r3b0rN
02-18-2004, 04:22 AM
nuh ive heard watercooling video card mem is just as succesfull as cooling it with ramsinks. 15mhz max.
