Talking of predictions I'm starting to wonder what my 3dmark03 score will be when I buy nv40 or r420. In other words I wonder how much of a jump it will be.

Current rumours are that the nv40 will have more pipelines and better ps2 speed whereas r420 will have more vertex units and faster piplines ( though the same number ). Ignoring the ultrafast memory the faster gpu/vpu core clocks ( 500-600 ? ) should mean I might be up in the 8-9k region .. wahey ! Shame I still find 03 very boring.

I also find 2003 boring, I havent even tried it with my ti4200. 2001 is alot more fun and we should be seeing lots of 30k air cooled scores with an r420(and maybe nv40) with socket 939 and a64s doing near or 3GHz on air cooling due to improved yields. 3700+ will be 2.4GHz stock, the good ones will do 2.8 to 3GHz air cooled.

and yeah this wag-style phrophecies are getting really darn annoying. every five posts i read what the 420 might or might not do... we'll see it soon enough. btw i think the pentium 6 will really own and we'll see 25k '03 easy (btw that was sarcasm) ;)...
the only thing funny about those recurring estimates is the responses to them, like yours - they really crack me up. but i'd rather have a laugh a day less than another 10 guesses at possible scores to come.

I can confidently predict that GF4ti's predictions will continue to occur at a predicatable rate.

I have to say that the last few posts made me chuckle, though I don't feel as strong on the subject and therefore am not bothered by this sort of post. I just wish all this new hardware was here right now.

Quad, will you have the chance to test nv40 / r420 before NDA expires ? I'm thinking along the lines of your very popular AMD64 tbreak thread ( ie more than 100 000 views in 5 days :D )

even if anyone tests NDA hardware, the results wont be allowed to be made public till NDA expires, but thats still a headstart. Get socket 939 and r420 a week early, break 40k marks then as soon as NDA expires, publish score and your top of the orb!

I'm interested what nv40 will do with 44.03 drivers in nature, bet it's mindboggingly high if they are running 6x2 or 8x2 pipelines at 500+ MHz .....

r420/nV40 won't get you 40k cos both have pretty weak branch prediction accuracy in 6th and 7th texture pipelines due to a few recent marketing mispredictions.

If you have seen the nv40 and r420 or heard about it which the rest of us havent due to NDA then your prediction prevails. so is it even gonna be a worthy upgrade over a 9800xt and I dont mean 10% faster either :rolleyes:

actually, those high natures are with the optimized 43.03 which may not even work on the nv40. If they do, we may be hitting 300fps in nature overclocked, if not, more like 200-230

There's a good thread at beyond3d at present on nv40 rumour from Theinq. Looks Soulburner's 8x2 is probably right ( or 16x1 ) and with GDDR2/3 memory at 50GB/sec would mean it is not bandwidth starved.

I'm guessing over 300 fps now :eek:

There's the first few doubts creeping into the fanATics about the r40 being far superior ;)

It will probably still be top dog in DX9 though.

I have to confess I'm having trouble not giving out my own predictions now, I'm as excitable as a 6 week old puppy weeing all over the house :p:
