I just picked up a 9800XT and am considering freezing it with a Vapochill.
Looking for some pics of the core side without the heat sink so I can better judge what course of attachments I`m gunna need to rig up.
Also, by looking at the card, unlike the FX5900U I had frozen, it looks like I`m going to need something on the memory chips for cooling after removing the factory heat sink and fan, any suggestions on what to buy and which chips on both sides of the card need to be cooled??
If all goes well with this, I might consider the rest of the voltage MODs too. :)
Thanks for any info you can share.

Im wondering...if you are going to vmod it anyway why dont you just dismount the heatsink and take a look ? :)

okay, I did just that.
..and attached my Vapochill head to the core.
But I get a checkerboard type effect on some benchs if I do the core too much, is that normal and will the voltage mods fix\decrease that?

and what do you recommend to cool the memory chips and the glue to attach them?

Hmm up the gpu voltage and the mem voltage I wouldnt bother modding the vref and vddq....And for the mem I would buy some tweakmonster ramsinks :) good luck d00d

are all the 9800 pro voltage mods going to be the same for the 9800XT??

...are there any tweak guides to all the options in the ATI control panel??
I do a 03 mark compare with the #1 guy in my class and my #s are right there with his untill the nature test, then he blows me away....and he`s running stock core and memory speeds as well.
I`m thinking it`s a game profile or some setting in the control panel will boost nature....any ideas?

He could have a glitched/errored nature (or whatever its called) which bestows upon one too many points.. I don't really know if thats the case though, perhaps if you post a compare of his some people here will be able give you more info.

I picked up heatsinks at Radioshack for $1.59 ea. They gave me another 15Mhz OC.

RadioShack Heatsink (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F011%5F002%5F008%5F000&product%5Fid=276%2D1368)

Yep, those things are nice...for the money. I use em for vid cards and cooling mosfets.

do they sell the stuff at Radio Shack to glue them on to the chip as well??
and what`s it called?? Will it allow you to take them off if need be to RMA the card if it dies??

Heres my 9800XT in the process of being outfitted with a waterblock...also added some extra cooling to the ramsinks.

Youve got more fans on your video card than I have in my case...lol. No offense, just kinda funny.

They may sell some type of adhesive, but good ole super glue will do the trick everytime without worries. Just put some thermal compound on the center portion of the ram, then add dots of super glue to the four corners of the video card and apply the sinks and hold pressure down for maybe 5-10 seconds. Bonds pretty quick.

To remove them if you have to RMA the card...just stick the card in the freezer for hour or so then the ram sinks pop right off with using your hand or some pliers.

ya, made my card feel like a 5800 though, with the ramsinks and the fans, on each side, thing is like 3 inches thick now, so long 1 slot radeon 9800xt.
